The best open-weight AI model in India now scores within four points of the best closed one, and it costs up to one HUNDRED times less to run. In episode ninety-eight, we talked about India's AI scene feeling like a 'Jurassic Park' era. Well, it turns out the local velociraptors are now out-thinking the T-Rex, and for a fraction of the food. This isn't just an incremental improvement; it’s a fundamental shift in the power balance of artificial intelligence. And that's not the only tectonic plate moving today. Here's a quick sweep of what else just changed. First, in the world of physical AI, robotics firm Addverb just kicked off its fiscal year with an order book of one thousand three hundred crore rupees. That's up from a seven hundred crore turnover last year.

Their 'Bot Verse' factory in Greater Noida is now fully scaled to produce one hundred thousand mobile robots annually, making it the largest single-location facility of its kind on the PLANET. They designed it to support revenue of up to eight thousand five hundred crore rupees. So, yeah. They're planning for scale. Meanwhile, the 'Zepto shockwave' we discussed is accelerating. The competitive heat in quick commerce has now compressed new product development cycles from months down to just a few weeks. Think about that. If you're a brand in that space and you're not launching something new practically every other Tuesday, you are already falling behind. The speed of innovation has become the product itself. And, of course, the money is following the code.

AI startups like Emergent and Sarvam AI are pulling in significant new funding and seeing their valuations surge. This tells you investors are betting that the AI performance leap we're seeing isn't a temporary blip. It's the new floor. Okay, so let's go back to that lead story. How is this happening? How did Indian open-weight models get so good, so fast, and so cheap? The answer is subsidized power. Computational power. Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes. The government's IndiaAI Mission has quietly deployed over thirty-four thousand GPUs for the country's AI ecosystem. And it’s renting them out to startups and researchers at a STUNNINGLY low price—between one hundred fifteen and one hundred fifty rupees per GPU-hour.

That's roughly a dollar-twenty to a dollar-sixty. In the global market, that kind of compute power can cost ten times that. The mission is targeting one hundred thousand GPUs by the end of 2026. This completely changes the game. It means you no longer need to be a Silicon Valley giant with a billion-dollar hardware budget to train a world-class model. A small, brilliant team in Bengaluru or Hyderabad can now access the same horsepower and compete on a level playing field. It democratizes innovation. It's the single biggest reason why local models are suddenly punching way, way above their weight. But here's the catch. Just as this incredible wave of AI efficiency is cresting, Zoho's co-founder Sridhar Vembu just put out a major warning.

He's looking at the same trend, and he sees a huge problem on the horizon. He's pointing out that while AI makes software development faster and products cheaper, it's also gutting the demand for new, entry-level hires in the IT industry. Companies can just do more with fewer people. And his point is brutally simple: what good are cheaper goods if the next generation of young workers doesn't have the purchasing power to buy them? You can build the most efficient economy in the world, but if nobody has a job, who are you selling to? So you have this explosion in AI capability, directly fueled by a national strategy, that could make India a global AI superpower. And in the same breath, one of the country's most respected founders is asking if we're busy automating our own customer base out of existence.

So you have these two powerful forces pushing against each other right now. On one hand, you have Addverb's factory floor, ready to churn out a hundred thousand robots to make every warehouse hyper-efficient. On the other, you have Sridhar Vembu’s question hanging in the air about where the humans who used to do that work will get their next paycheck. India is building a world-class technology engine at incredible speed. The question that's just starting to be asked out loud is who, exactly, will be in the driver's seat—and who will be watching from the side of the road.
