BatX Energies just secured one-hundred-five crore rupees in a round led by IvyCap Ventures. In episode seventy, we talked about the wild idea of putting AI data centers in space, but today, the story is crashing right back to earth. The real explosion isn't in orbit, it's in the hiring market for engineers to build and cool the data centers we need right now. So, here's what else is moving. That BatX funding is part of a much bigger shift. A new report from Bain and Company says India's entire venture capital world is pivoting. The era of "growth at all costs" is officially over. For 2026, investors want one thing: monetization. They're prioritizing capital efficiency, sustainable profits, and a clear path to an exit. If you can't show how you'll make money—and soon—the door is closed.
On the global stage, two big moves. First, India and Russia just set a fifty billion dollar mutual investment target by 2030. They're focused on advanced manufacturing, critical minerals, and green tech. Second, India formally joined the Pax Silica initiative back in February, which is a big multilateral AI research partnership. It signals a major shift toward global collaboration instead of trying to go it alone in AI development. But here's the counterpoint. While we're striking fifty-billion-dollar deals and joining global AI clubs, the government just had to scrap the auction for nine critical mineral blocks. Why? Nobody showed up. The investor response was so poor they just cancelled it. These are the very minerals we need for batteries, for chips, for the entire clean energy transition.
It's a huge reality check. Okay, let's go deeper on that venture capital shift, because it changes everything for anyone building a company in India today. That Bain report is basically a memo to the entire ecosystem. "Monetization-led growth" isn't just a buzzword. It means VCs are now looking at your pitch deck and immediately flipping to the revenue slide. They're asking different questions. Not "how big can this get?" but "how soon can this be profitable?" and "how capital-efficient are you?" And what's driving this? Two things: AI and Q-commerce infrastructure. The AI part is creating this incredible demand distortion in the job market. We're not just talking about software developers. The real war for talent right now is for mechanical and electrical engineers.
The people who can actually design the power systems and cooling technologies for these massive, power-hungry AI data centers. Salaries are spiking because you can't just download a data center. It's a PHYSICAL thing that needs to be built. This is where the World Bank report comes in, and it's a warning. It says for emerging markets like India to really benefit from AI, it's not enough to just import models built in Silicon Valley. You have to build the entire local ecosystem. The digital infrastructure, the skilled talent, and—this is the key part—adaptable AI building blocks. India joining Pax Silica is a step in that direction, an admission that we need to be in the room where the core research happens. But what does this AI revolution look like for an actual founder?
There's this story about a small US-based business called Here Now Health. The founder is a first-time female entrepreneur, no MBA. She used AI tools for everything—business planning, market research, even prepping her investor pitch. She said, and I'm quoting here, "Developing my funding pitch with AI guidance was like going to a master's level class every day from the robot. It was my startup advisor." She raised venture capital, and scaled fast. That's the promise: AI lowering the barrier to entry for everyone. So you have this massive push into the digital, the intangible. AI as your co-founder, AI driving a new investment thesis. But it all keeps coming back to the real world. And that brings us back to those nine cancelled mineral blocks.
It's the perfect contrast. We are sprinting ahead in the world of bits and algorithms, creating enormous value out of code. But when it comes to the world of atoms—digging things out of the ground that are essential for the very hardware that runs our code—we're hitting a wall. The risk is too high, the costs are too steep, the regulations are too complex for private investors. The future is being written in code, but it still has to be built with steel and powered by minerals. And for India, right now, writing the code is proving to be a whole lot easier than digging up the rock.
