A company called Orbital just applied for clearance to launch one hundred thousand satellites. Last time we talked about Bhavin Turakhia's thirty million dollar launch for Neo, and while that's a big deal in fintech, what Orbital is doing is a whole different scale of ambition. They want to build AI data centers... in space. This isn't a plan for ten years from now, this is an FCC application filed this week. Okay, so that's the headline that scrambles your brain. But here's what else is moving. Bengaluru just cemented its status as India's under-thirty capital. The new Hurun U30 list dropped, and twenty-one of the founders are from the city. And we're not talking about another food delivery app.
We're talking AI, SpaceTech, and EVs. It’s a fundamental shift. Meanwhile, the job market is telling the same story, just with a sharper edge. Overall IT hiring actually dropped three percent in June. But hidden inside that number? AI roles surged sixteen percent. That's not a trend, that's a replacement. The entire sector is retooling, live, right in front of us. And the money is following. BatX Energies, an EV battery startup, just pulled in a one-hundred-and-five crore funding round led by IvyCap Ventures. It’s another sign that investors are still writing big checks for clean mobility. And speaking of checks, Apple's CFO Kevan Parekh just said India's developer ecosystem is only "scratching the surface," pointing to massive growth on the App Store.
Finally, while Bengaluru is getting the spotlight, don't sleep on Hyderabad. Its own spacetech scene is now at nearly a hundred startups, having raised over three hundred million dollars. So, let's go back to those twenty-one founders in Bengaluru. Here's the part that really matters. Priyank Kharge, Karnataka's IT Minister, said this surge marks a shift towards DeepTech and HARDWARE. For years, the story of the Indian startup was software. It was about leveraging India's talent pool to write code for the world. It was capital-efficient. You needed a laptop, an internet connection, and a great idea. That era is NOT over, but it's not the only story anymore. Now, the most ambitious founders, the ones under thirty, are building things you can touch.
Things that require factories and supply chains and physics. SpaceTech, AI hardware, electric vehicles. This is a much harder game. You can't bootstrap a rocket company. And that brings us to the second big shift. The money is changing. You've probably noticed that we're seeing fewer, but bigger, funding rounds. The average seed and early-stage check size has nearly doubled. What you're seeing is the end of "spray and pray" investing. VCs are realizing that to win in DeepTech, you can't sprinkle a little money on ten companies and hope one works. You have to make concentrated, high-conviction bets. You have to frontload the capital because building hardware is EXPENSIVE.
So when you see a deal like BatX Energies raising one-hundred-and-five crore, or a new hundred-million-dollar fund from Shastra VC specifically for DeepTech and AI... that's not just another funding announcement. It's evidence of this new model. The risk is higher. The timelines are longer. But the VCs are betting that the payoff — owning a piece of the next-generation infrastructure for AI or energy or space — is worth it. It’s a bet on atoms, not just bits. So what's different today? The definition of ambition has been upgraded. It's no longer just about building a world-class app. It's about building the world. The shift from software to hard tech means the smartest people are now tackling problems that are physically difficult, not just logically complex.
And it means the money is getting serious, placing bigger bets on fewer, bolder ideas. Yesterday's playbook was about scaling code. Today's is about bending metal.
