The cones of the Lodgepole Pine are sealed shut with a hard resin. They can stay that way for years, waiting, until the one thing that can open them arrives: the intense, searing heat of a forest fire. In our last episode on real strength, we talked about anchoring yourself in what you’ve already built. Today, we’re talking about the fire. We’re talking about the heat required for new growth. Because you are facing something difficult. And the first, most necessary truth for today is this: This is hard, and that is okay.
Say it with me, right now, wherever you are. This is hard. It is supposed to be hard. The difficulty is not a sign that you are failing. It is a sign that the stakes are real. It is proof that you are pushing into new territory. Ease does not produce growth. Comfort does not make you stronger. So when that feeling rises—that friction, that exhaustion, that voice that says you should quit because it’s too much—I want you to see it for what it is. It's a gauge. It's a signal from the front lines. It simply means you are engaged in a worthy fight.
You are not weak because this is hard. You are strong because you are still here, doing it anyway. Now for the second truth. This is the pivot. This is where everything changes. Inside this challenge is a skill my future self needs. I am capable of finding it. This isn’t about just surviving the fire. It’s about looking into the flames and seeing what’s being forged. Look past the frustration. Look past the fear. What is this situation demanding of you? Is it patience? Is it the courage to have a conversation you’ve been avoiding?
Is it the discipline to learn a new system, a new tool, a new way of being? That is the seed. The thing this obstacle requires from you is the very thing it is trying to give you. Your job isn't to endure the challenge. Your job is to extract the lesson. Don’t just get through it. Get something from it. Ask the question: What am I learning to do right now that was impossible for me a year ago? The answer is right there. You're living it. And that brings us to the final, most powerful truth. This is not about what you do.
It’s about who you are becoming. I am not just enduring this. I am allowing this to change me for the better. This is the point of alchemy. This is where you stop seeing the obstacle as something happening to you, and start seeing it as something happening for you. I know, I know. It sounds like a cheap slogan. But think about it. The person who started this journey is not the person who will finish it. Every hard day, every small win, every time you got back up after getting knocked down—that was a choice. You were choosing to build a new version of yourself.
A version that is more resilient. More capable. More wise. This difficulty is your training ground. The pressure is carving you into the person who can handle this, and more. You are not being broken. You are being built. The fire is not your enemy. It is your collaborator. It is the heat that is finally, finally opening you up to who you are meant to be. So feel the heat today. Don't run from it. Don't curse it. See it for what it is. It's a sign that something new is about to begin. That the seeds you've carried inside you for so long are finally getting the one thing they need to be released.
The heat you feel right now is not the thing that will destroy you. It is the very thing that is setting you free.
