A Harvard study found that we spend forty-seven percent of our waking hours thinking about something other than what we’re actually doing. Almost half your life, lost in thought. In episode ninety-five, we talked about affirmations for real growth. Today is different. Today isn’t about growth. It’s about what you do when you can't grow, when you can't move, when all you can do is be right here, in this moment, exactly as you are. Because the hardest days aren't the ones where you fail at a big goal. They're the ones where you feel like you're failing at just...
being. The days you wake up already tired. Already behind. Already judging yourself for not being better, stronger, further along. So today, we’re not going to push. We’re not going to strive. We are going to stand still. And we are going to say things that are so deeply true they might just crack you open. Here is the first one. I want you to try it on. Say it out loud if you can. My only job today is to be right where I am. That’s it. That’s the whole job description. Not to fix the mess in the kitchen. Not to solve the problem at work.
Not to finally become the person you think you should be. Just this. Just being here. In this body. In this room. In this un-finished, imperfect, completely okay moment. This isn’t giving up. It’s a cease-fire. You’ve been fighting a war against your own reality for so long. A war against your circumstances, your feelings, your own timeline. What if, for the next twenty-four hours, you declared peace? What if you let reality win? Not because it broke you, but because you chose to stop fighting it. Your only job is to be right where you are.
Let that sink in. It’s permission. It’s freedom. Okay. Here’s the second one. This is for when the feelings come. The big ones. The ones you’ve been taught to swallow, or fix, or run from. I am allowed to feel this, without needing to fix it. Feel the weight of that word. Allowed. You are allowed to feel sad. You are allowed to feel angry. You are allowed to feel lost, or confused, or just… blah. These feelings are not problems to be solved. They are not error messages in your code. They are signals. They are part of your guidance system.
They are messengers, and for years you’ve been shooting the messenger. Today, you invite the messenger in for tea. You listen. You don’t have to agree with everything it says. You don’t have to let it redecorate your house. But you have to let it speak. "Hello, sadness. I see you. You are allowed to be here." "Hello, anxiety. I feel you. You don’t need to be fixed right now." This is radical self-compassion. It’s looking at the parts of yourself you’ve been told are ugly or broken and saying, "You belong, too." And that brings us to the last one.
This one might be the hardest, because it goes against EVERYTHING the world screams at you, every single day. My worth is not in what I produce; it is in what I am. Read that again in your head. My worth is not in my to-do list. Not in my bank account. Not in my job title, my clean house, my perfect parenting, my side hustle, my follower count. All of that is output. All of that is what you DO. It is not who you ARE. You had inherent worth the second you were born. Before you could achieve anything. Before you could impress anyone.
You were enough, right then. And you are enough, right now. The world has just spent a lifetime trying to sell you a lie. The lie that your value is conditional. That you have to earn your place on this planet. You don’t. You are not a human doing. You are a human being. And your being is the whole point. Your worth is the quiet hum of existence underneath all the noise. It’s there when you succeed. It’s there when you fail. It does not change. It is ABSOLUTE. So today, when you feel that pressure to perform, to prove yourself, to justify your existence through action… I want you to stop.
Put your hand on your heart. And remember. My only job is to be right where I am. I am allowed to feel this, without needing to fix it. My worth is not in what I produce; it is in what I am. The goal was never to become some better, shinier, more perfect version of yourself. The real journey, the only one that ever mattered, was the journey back home. To the person you were, all along.
