Here’s a hard truth about affirmations. The ones that are too big for you to believe… they actually backfire. They trigger resistance in your brain. You’ve felt this. You’ve stood in front of a mirror and said “I am a millionaire” or “I am a beacon of perfect confidence” and your entire body cringed. It felt like a lie. Because it was. So today, we stop lying. We stop trying to leap across a canyon of disbelief. Instead, we build a bridge. One plank at a time. And we start right now. Let’s try the first one.

Forget “I am fearless.” That’s not true. You feel fear. I feel fear. Fear is a compass, not a cage. Instead, I want you to find a feeling that’s already in you, even if it’s small. A flicker of resolve. A memory of a time you spoke up and it mattered. Hold that. Now, the words. Say them with me. My voice has value. That’s it. Not “everyone listens when I speak.” Not “I command the room.” Just… my voice has value. It’s true. It has inherent value whether one person hears it or a thousand. Whether you whisper it or declare it.

It doesn’t require anyone else’s validation to be true. The problem was never the value of your voice. The problem was you learned to be quiet. You learned to shrink. Someone, somewhere, taught you that your space was smaller than you thought. Today is the day you stop believing them. My voice has value. And today… I will use it. Maybe in a meeting. Maybe in a text message. Maybe just to yourself. But you will use it. Next. Let’s talk about that mistake you’re still replaying. You know the one. The email with the typo.

The comment that landed wrong. The project that didn’t work. The generic affirmation is “I am perfect” or “I never fail.” What a ridiculous thing to ask a human being to believe. Let’s try a better one. One that’s actually useful. My mistakes are my education. Feel the difference? One is a fantasy. The other is a strategy. That thing you did wrong isn’t a brand on your forehead. It was tuition. You paid the price—in embarrassment, in frustration, in lost time. So now, collect the lesson. Don’t let that payment go to waste.

A mistake is only a failure if you learn nothing from it. So today, when your brain tries to drag you back to that moment, you have your answer. You can look it right in the eye and say, “Thank you. I learned from that. It made me smarter. It made me better.” My mistakes are my education. And my graduation is today. Okay, last one. This is the one that changes the game. So many affirmations are about a future state. “I will be happy.” “I will be strong.” It puts all your power into tomorrow, and leaves you with nothing for today.

Power isn’t something you wait for. It’s something you decide to embody. Right now. So this last one isn’t about what you will be. It’s about what you choose in this exact moment. Breathe in. Now say it. Today, I choose my response. That’s the whole thing. It’s not about controlling the world. You can’t. It’s not about stopping bad things from happening. You can’t. It’s about the one space you have total, absolute control over—the space between something happening, and you reacting to it. In that space lies your power.

Someone cuts you off in traffic. A project gets delayed. An email you didn’t want arrives. You get to choose. Am I choosing anger? Am I choosing despair? Or am I choosing grace? Am I choosing to solve the problem instead of sitting in the feeling? Today, you choose your response. These aren’t magic spells. They are declarations of focus. Dr. Bruce Lipton, a biologist who studies this, says the mind’s job is to create coherence between your beliefs and your reality. It will work tirelessly to prove that what you believe is true.

So stop giving it impossible targets. Stop telling it to believe you’re a millionaire when your bank account says otherwise. Give it something it can work with. My voice has value. My mistakes are my education. Today, I choose my response. These are true. Right now. They are the first planks in the bridge. Your reality is already catching up to your belief. Give it a target it can actually hit.
