Your feet are on the floor. That’s it. That’s the first truth of the day. Before the coffee, before the email, before the list of things you think you have to be… you are simply a person with your feet on the floor. Feel that. The solid ground beneath you. That’s not a metaphor. It’s a fact. And it’s the only one you need to start. You are here. Present. Accounted for. That’s the first victory. Now for the second one. This one requires a little more from you. I want you to think of a time you were absolutely certain you were done. Finished. A time the floor gave out and you were in a free fall.
A failure, a heartbreak, a diagnosis… you know the one. Don’t just remember it as a story. Go back. Feel the weight of it for just a second. Remember the person who thought they couldn’t possibly take another step. Now, look around the room you’re in right now. The person who survived that is the person who is breathing in this room. That’s not an affirmation. That is your own personal, documented history. You have empirical evidence that you can survive the impossible. You have the receipts. So when your brain starts telling you that today is the day it all comes apart, you can quietly, confidently show it the data.
You’ve been through fire. Today... today is just Tuesday. The strength you’re looking for isn’t something you need to build. It’s something you need to remember. It’s already in your cells. It’s your own lived-in, hard-won truth. And that brings us to the final thing. The most important one, maybe. You are not required to be perfect today. Let me say that again. You are not required to be perfect today. Your job is not to get everything right. Your job is not to be flawless, or brilliant, or to have all the answers. That pressure you feel? That’s a ghost. It’s a story you made up to protect yourself, to keep you from trying things where the outcome isn’t guaranteed.
But you don’t need that story anymore. Your only job today is to be present. To show up. To put one foot in front of the other, just like you did when you got out of bed. If you get it wrong, you’ll fix it. If you stumble, you’ll get back up. You know this because you’ve done it before. We just went over the evidence. The goal isn’t a perfect performance. The goal is to stay in the room. The goal is to keep your feet on the floor, even when it shakes. Forget the slogans on coffee mugs. Forget the posters of eagles soaring over mountains. Your strength isn't a borrowed idea.
It’s in the feeling of the floor under your feet. It’s in the scars you’ve already earned. It’s in the quiet permission you give yourself to be human. You have what you need. You are what you need. Now go start your day.
