good morning baby notice the weight of your body right where you're sitting supported and held by the ground beneath you last time we talked about setting down what was too heavy to carry choosing to let what you have right now be enough today you don't even have to reach for enough the morning air is cool on the porch railing the street is quiet and you are already here take a slow breath in through your nose filling up easy and deep

let it go out through your mouth soft like a sigh at sundown there's no hurry in this room in the choir loft on wednesday nights before we ever sang a single note i'd tell my sopranos to let the air drop all the way down to the hem of their skirts inhale quiet patience drawing it deep into your chest exhale every single thing you thought you had to prove before the sun came up

feel the soles of your feet touching the floor they've carried you across so many rooms through so many long seasons without asking for much praise let your knees soften let your hands open in your lap fingers resting loose holding on to nothing at all drop your shoulders down away from your ears so much of life asks you to brace yourself to stand ready for whatever drops next

but right here in this pocket of early light you don't have to brace for a thing unclench your jaw let the little muscles around your eyes smooth out like quiet water mhmm you are allowed to be a person resting inside your own skin beneath the noise of what you need to do there is a stillness that belongs to you you don't have to earn this silence

it was waiting here before you woke up like a gentle shade tree in late july in the book of psalms chapter 46 first hand the old word says be still and know not run faster not fix every broken fence but be still sit inside that quiet for a little while your breath rising your breath falling

nothing missing nothing lacking mhmm bring your awareness back to the room to the soft temperature of the air against your arms you don't have to carry it all before breakfast if you carry anything into the noise of the day ahead let it be this your quiet presence is already a blessing to this world exactly as you are

go on now and let the day meet you kind
