Good morning, baby. Wherever you are right now, just let everything else fall away for a minute. Last time we were together, we talked about wrapping yourself in a soft blanket of grace to start the day. Let’s pull that blanket up a little closer this morning. Feel the air as you breathe in. And feel your body soften as you breathe out. There’s no hurry here. Just this breath, and the next. Let your shoulders drop down from your ears. Let the little muscles around your eyes get soft. Mm-hm. You are right here, right now.

And that is a perfect place to be. Hmm-mm-mm… I was sitting here on my porch, and my Bible fell open to a page I’ve read a hundred times. It’s from the second letter to the Corinthians, chapter twelve, verse nine. And the Lord says to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Let’s hear that again. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Now that’s a good word for a Tuesday. It reminds me of this young woman who joined our choir, oh, a few years back.

Sweetest soul, but she was so worried about being perfect. She’d hold that sheet music so tight her knuckles were white. And if she thought her note was a little flat, or if she came in a half-a-beat late, I could see her just… deflate. One evening at rehearsal, she was trying to hit this high, clear note in a solo part, and her voice just cracked a little. And oh, honey, the tears just welled right up in her eyes. After we finished, I went and sat by her. I told her, “Baby, the good Lord isn't listening for perfection.

He’s listening for the sound of a heart reaching for Him. That little crack in your voice? That’s where the light gets in. That’s where His strength has room to show up.” Mm-hm. Sit with that a minute, baby. All day long, the world is telling us to be stronger, be better, be perfect. Don’t have a hair out of place. Don’t have a doubt in your mind. Don’t have a crack in your voice. But that’s not what this word says. It says His power is made PERFECT in our weakness. In our not-enough-ness. In the places where we feel like we’re failing.

That’s the space He loves to work in. That’s the quiet spot where grace rushes in to meet you. So just for a moment, in the quiet, think about one of those places in your own life. A place where you feel like you aren’t enough. Where you’re trying so hard to be perfect. Now, just breathe into that place. And imagine grace, like warm honey, just pouring right into it. Not to fix it. But just to be with you in it. You don’t have to carry it all before breakfast. His grace is enough. It IS enough. So as you get ready to meet this day, carry that with you.

The beauty isn’t in being flawless. The beauty is in the trying, in the reaching, in the heart that sings even with a little crack in its voice. Go on, now, and let the day meet you kind.
