A bald eagle's grip is about ten times stronger than an adult human's. In our last Morning Mercies episode, we spoke about nurturing peace and hope for the hours ahead. Today is about where we find the strength for those hours, especially when they feel demanding. Let's listen to the word of God from the prophet Isaiah, chapter forty, verse thirty-one. but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. This is one of those verses many of us know.

We might even have it on a coffee mug. But when you slow down and really hear it, it offers something incredibly practical for the day you have in front of you. It all starts with that first phrase: "those who hope in the Lord." Sometimes we hear the word "hope" and think of wishful thinking. Crossing our fingers. But in the Bible, hope is different. It's not a flimsy wish; it's a confident expectation. It's an active waiting. It's trusting in the character of God more than you trust the circumstances you can see. So here's what that means for you.

When you look at your calendar and feel that wave of exhaustion before you've even started... hoping in the Lord means your first move isn't just to grab more coffee. It's to pause. To take one quiet breath and re-center on the truth that your strength for this day does not come from you alone. It's a small, internal pivot from "I have to do all this" to "God will provide the strength for what He has called me to do today." Then comes the promise: they "will renew their strength." Notice the word is not "preserve" their strength.

It’s not "manage" their strength. It is RENEW. This word implies an exchange. You give God your fatigue, your burnout, your feeling of being completely spent. And in return, He gives you His strength. Which never runs out. This is the secret to endurance. It’s not about being the strongest person. It's about being the person most connected to the source of ALL strength. Here's what that means if you're facing a day of draining tasks. That patience you need for a difficult coworker, the focus required for a tedious project, the gentle energy for your family tonight...

that doesn't have to be scraped from the bottom of your own personal barrel. You can actively ask for it to be renewed. The promise is that you are connected to a source that is more than enough. Finally, look at the verbs. Soar, run, walk. This is a picture of a whole life. There are seasons, or even just moments in a day, that call for soaring. Big ideas, creative breakthroughs, moments of vision where you feel like you're on top of the world. The strength for that comes from God. There are days that feel like a marathon. You have to run, to push, to persevere and just keep going without getting worn out.

The promise is, His strength is for those days, too. You will run and NOT grow weary. But for most of us, most of the time... life is just walking. One foot in front of the other. Answering the emails. Doing the laundry. Making the commute. Showing up. And the beauty of this verse is that it ends there. "They will walk and not be faint." God's promise of renewed strength isn't just for the mountaintop highs or the crisis-mode sprints. It is for the ordinary, daily walk. He is deeply invested in giving you the grace to simply put one foot in front of the other, and not give up.

So the question for you today isn't, "Do I have enough strength for everything on my list?" The real question is, "Where am I looking for it?" Your strength is not a battery you have to anxiously manage. It is a promise you get to continually receive.
