So Zeus just tried to smite a content house in Los Angeles. With a lightning bolt. He missed and hit a Tesla charging station, which apparently just… charged all the cars. Instantly. This comes just a week after that whole Olympian outrage over AI chatbots of the dead we talked about in episode fourteen. And yes, for those asking, Hades is STILL in mediation with the digital ghosts' union representative. It's going great. But the new crisis isn't about bringing back the dead. It's about what the living are doing with their time. Which, according to the gods, is absolutely NOTHING. Hermes is taking it the hardest.

He's the god of messengers, of communication, of important information getting from point A to point B. He once delivered the news of the Trojan War. Now he watches you scroll past a notification that your identity has been stolen… to finish a quiz that tells you which character from a nineties sitcom you are. He is NOT okay. He saw a mortal get an alert for an impending flash flood. They swiped it away. To watch a video of a man whispering into a microphone while pretending to give them a haircut. Hermes doesn't understand ASMR. He thinks it's a new form of curse. Then there’s the whole worship situation.

Or, the lack of it. Aphrodite finally got Athena to give her the Wi-Fi password, and she discovered the concept of a 'beauty influencer.' Ohhh boy. She saw a twenty-four-year-old with fifty million followers doing a twenty-minute video on how to look 'effortlessly dewy.' Fifty. Million. Mortals. Aphrodite’s last active temple got turned into a luxury dog hotel. She’s screaming about sacrilege and a lack of proper offerings. But, and this is the best part, she was also taking notes. She cornered Hephaestus and asked if he could forge her a 'ring light.' Even Ares is confused. He, the god of WAR, tried watching a Twitch stream of some battle royale game.

He kept shouting at the screen about flanking maneuvers and securing supply lines. He was genuinely impressed by the tactics. Until the player, a fifteen-year-old from Ohio, got eliminated and blamed it on 'lag.' Ares has no idea what lag is, but he’s ready to declare war on it. He thinks it’s a rival deity from Babylon. So the gods decided to fight fire with fire. To get relevant. And it has been a complete and total disaster. Apollo, the literal god of music and poetry, posted the most beautiful sonnet ever composed to his new Instagram account. It got six likes. One was his mom. The other five were bots trying to sell him crypto.

Dionysus tried to launch a viral wine-tasting challenge on TikTok. His account was suspended in three hours for violating community guidelines on dangerous activities. He invented the stuff! And that’s the real turn here. The thing that's causing the panic on Olympus. It's not that you've stopped fearing them. It's that you've stopped PAYING ATTENTION. They're realizing that power, in your world, isn't about controlling the harvest or the seas anymore. It's about controlling the algorithm. Zeus can throw all the lightning he wants. It won't get him past the ad for meal-prep kits that you're watching. He commands the heavens.

But a kid with a good engagement rate commands your eyeballs. And the gods are just now figuring out which one of those is the real throne. They’re learning that reverence isn’t demanded with thunder. It’s earned, fifteen seconds at a time.
