The lights came up on Monday morn, a thousand-page bill was born Its title promised sun and stars, its contents mentioned trade and cars But deep inside, a clause was snuck about a federally funded duck The opposition screamed and cried, "A feathered fiscal homicide!" The talking heads all took their sides, as reason ran away to hide And so the curtain starts to rise on grand theatrics and on lies! Is this a budget or a play? It's just another week, hooray! We sing the talking points we're fed while common sense is left for dead

Oh, what a glorious, mad display on this political Broadway! By Wednesday, things got truly strange, a filibuster, out of range A Senator, with solemn face, read takeout menus into space He spoke of noodles for three hours, of fiscal doom and fading powers The press secretary, with a grin, said down is up and out is in A tweet was sent, then fast deleted, a promise made was soon defeated And so the curtain starts to rise on grand theatrics and on lies! Is this a budget or a play? It's just another week, hooray!

We sing the talking points we're fed while common sense is left for dead Oh, what a glorious, mad display on this political Broadway! Did someone write this script for laughs? These pie-charts and these crooked graphs? We look each other in the eye and try our hardest not to sigh Is anyone in charge up here? The answer's anything but clear But the prompter's on, the lights are bright! We have to make it through the night! We have to make it through the week! So let the orchestra now SPEAK! AND SO THE CURTAIN STARTS TO RISE ON GRAND THEATRICS AND ON LIES!

IS THIS A BUDGET OR A PLAY? IT'S JUST ANOTHER WEEK, HOORAY! WE SING THE TALKING POINTS WE'RE FED WHILE COMMON SENSE IS LEFT FOR DEAD! OH, WHAT A GLORIOUS, MAD DISPLAY ON THIS POLITICAL BROADWAY!
