Monday started with a breaking tweet A minor scandal on a D.C. street The press corps gathered, a chaotic scrum Forgetting what last week's crisis was from A new bill's drafted, with a catchy name Thirteen hundred pages, it's all a game They held a hearing, full of righteous sound While lobbyists bought another round Oh, the overture is loud and clear! The same mad show we get each year! The teleprompter's glowing with the lines Beneath the manufactured, angry signs Is this the script? Did someone write this part? It's breaking my dramatic, bleeding heart! It's the Friday Follies, take a bow! We can't believe this is happening now! A gaffe was uttered on a hot mic feed Fulfilling cable news's desperate need They cut the clip and played it on a loop

A talking head called it a 'major stoop' Then came the vote along the party line A pointless gesture, but it looked divine They posed for photos with a mighty pen And then went off to fight it all again Oh, the overture is loud and clear! We learn the words, we play our little role While the story spins right out of our control (The full cast joins, building to a crescendo)

But the set is shaking and the lights might fall! And no one's listening to the curtain call! (Tempo returns, faster and more frantic than before) OH, THE OVERTURE IS LOUD AND CLEAR! THE SAME MAD SHOW WE GET EACH YEAR! THE TELEPROMPTER'S GLOWING WITH THE LINES BENEATH THE MANUFACTURED, ANGRY SIGNS! IS THIS THE SCRIPT? DID SOMEONE WRITE THIS PART?! IT'S BREAKING MY DRAMATIC, BLEEDING HEART! IT'S THE FRIDAY FOLLIES, TAKE A BOW! WE CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING NOW! (Music swells to a huge, final chord, then cuts off abruptly.
