Nvidia just put five billion dollars into Ilya Sutskever's new AI startup. That’s one of the single biggest checks ever written for an AI company, going to the guy who just left OpenAI. In episode ninety-two, we talked about the quarter-trillion-dollar bets shaping AI — well, here’s another five billion that just landed, and it shows the money is still following the absolute sharpest minds. But the real earthquake today isn't that deal. It’s happening inside Tata Consultancy Services. TCS just dropped its first-quarter numbers, and you need to pay attention to this. Their AI revenue is now running at two-point-six billion dollars a year. That’s not a projection, that’s right now. But here’s the turn.
They also launched a new platform called the 1 GW HyperVault AI data center. They're partnering with EVERYONE — OpenAI, Microsoft, AWS, Anthropic. This isn't about choosing a side; it's about being the Switzerland of AI infrastructure. And their operating margin? Twenty-five percent. That is four hundred basis points higher than their closest competitor. They are literally more profitable while spending more on the future. And then the Chairman of Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran, said the quiet part out loud. Quote: “Over the next three years, TCS will have as many AI agents as human employees.” Let that sink in. This isn't some far-off sci-fi concept. It’s a three-year business plan from one of India's largest employers.
He called AI a "profound civilisational shift," and this is what that shift actually looks like. It’s not just giving people access to tech; it’s building a parallel, digital workforce. The transition from IT services to AI-first is happening faster than anyone predicted. Okay, so while TCS is building this internal AI army, the biggest names in the world are fighting over what the rules for that army should be. And they just broke into two different camps. First, you have a joint letter from basically every major player. Sam Altman, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang... you get the idea. They're all telling policymakers the same thing: do NOT put premature restrictions on open-weight AI models.
They're arguing that keeping AI models open is the only way to foster competition, drive innovation, and let countries like India build their own sovereign AI capabilities instead of just buying them from Silicon Valley. They want more access to compute, not less. It’s a full-throated defense of OPENNESS. And then, on the very same day, a different group forms. Nvidia, Adobe, CrowdStrike, and Hugging Face just created something called the Open Secure AI Alliance. The timing isn't an accident. This comes right after that high-profile hack at Hugging Face. So while one group is shouting "open everything," this other group — led by some of the same players! — is saying, "whoa, wait, we need to make 'open' mean 'secure'." It shows you the fundamental tension at the heart of AI right now.
Everyone wants the benefits of open innovation, but nobody wants to be the one left exposed when it goes wrong. This isn't a settled debate. This IS the debate. And it’s happening in public, right now. So you have these massive, global forces at play. Billions in funding, existential debates about open versus secure AI. But down on the ground, IndiaAI just announced it has established twenty-seven data and AI labs across twenty-one states. They’re planning one hundred eighty-eight more. These aren't just empty rooms; they have over five thousand five hundred people already enrolled in AI training. And that’s the piece that connects everything. The debate between Sam Altman and the security experts doesn't matter if you don't have engineers who can build.
TCS can't build an army of AI agents if there's no one to train them, deploy them, and manage them. That quote from Chandrasekaran about a "profound civilisational shift" isn't just about technology. It’s about the people. The opportunity isn't just in using the tools. It’s in being the nation that can build, maintain, and secure them at scale. The real race isn't just about who has the best model. It's about who has the most talent. And that race just went from a marathon to a dead sprint.
