Apple's software automatically "corrects" for the natural distortion of the wide-angle lens. But this correction can soften the edges of your photos, especially in low light. It's a trade-off between geometric perfection and sharpness. Turn it off, take a selfie, take an ultra-wide shot, and compare. You might find you prefer the sharper, more natural look. Second, and this is the big one: Switch to 48 megapixels.

Your phone has a 48-megapixel sensor. It's one of the main selling points. But by default, it's shooting at 12 megapixels. Why? File size. Apple assumes you'd rather have more photos that are just "good enough" than fewer photos that are spectacular. To fix this, go to Settings, Camera, then Formats. Set the format to High Efficiency. Then, turn on ProRAW & Resolution Control. Now, open your Camera app. You'll see a new button at the top—it might say HEIF MAX or RAW MAX. Tap it. Make sure it's set to 48MP. And finally, number six: Fix your selfies. Go to Settings, Camera, and turn on Mirror Front Camera. By default, your selfies are flipped horizontally.
