The locket arrived on a Tuesday, nestled in a box of dust and velvet. Like Kaelen's sound jars we heard about last time, some objects hold more than just memory; they hold a choice that was never made. Elara ran a shop for things like that. Objects that were echoes of paths not taken. A faded map from an expedition that turned back at the last minute. A single, perfect porcelain teacup from a set that was never completed. Each one a ghost.

A quiet testament to a world that almost was. Elara was their keeper. She never felt the pull of their stories. They were just… inventory. Until this locket. It was silver, tarnished at the edges, and cool to the touch. It felt heavier than it should. She worked the clasp with her thumbnail. A faint click. She expected a space for a photograph. Maybe two. A place for faded, smiling faces. But there were no faces. Inside, behind a tiny pane of glass, was a miniature snow globe.

And inside the globe… was her shop. Every detail perfect. The crooked bookshelf, the dusty globe in the corner, the worn patch on the rug. And standing in the middle of the miniature room, was a tiny, perfect Elara. She was not alone. She was holding hands with a man. Liam. The man she’d left ten years ago. The man she told herself she never thought about. He was smiling. And so was she. A deep, forgotten ache bloomed in her chest. The life she’d thrown away, held in the palm of her hand.

What if… She traced the curve of the glass with her finger, right over the tiny version of herself. And then… it happened. The tiny Liam inside the globe looked UP. Not at the tiny Elara beside him. But past her. Through the glass. Directly into the eyes of the REAL Elara. His smile vanished. He raised a tiny hand and pressed it to the inside of the glass. A perfect mirror to her own finger on the outside. He SAW her. This wasn’t a memory. It wasn’t an echo of a choice she’d made.

It was a window. He was there. Now. In a world where she had stayed. And he had spent ten years building a bridge back to the woman who left. A message in a bottle, sent across the sea of what-could-have-been. The tiny Elara at his side looked from his face to the glass, a flicker of confusion in her painted eyes. But Liam didn't look down. He just kept staring out at the woman who was holding his world in her hand. She had spent her life curating the ghosts of other people's choices.

Only to discover she WAS a ghost in someone else's.
