NVIDIA just unveiled its next-generation Vera Rubin platform, and it immediately sent the entire Philadelphia Semiconductor Index to a record high. Yesterday on the show, we talked about Tesla managing to buck a down market—a neat trick. This is something else entirely. This is the entire chip sector getting a new rocket engine bolted on while the rest of the market sputters. So that’s the lead story. Elsewhere, there are a few other big moves you need to know about. Seedcamp, the European VC, just raised a new three hundred and twenty million dollar fund—and the big change is they're officially planting a flag in the U.S. They plan to write roughly one-million-dollar first checks for about a hundred and twenty startups.

In the EV space, QuantumScape finally started shipping its first QSE-5 solid-state battery cells. This is a huge step. For years, solid-state has been a "five years away" technology—now, the first cells are actually in an automaker's hands for testing. And speaking of Tesla, its stock did pop one-point-one-four percent yesterday, closing at four hundred five dollars. It beat the S&P 500, sure, but it’s a ripple compared to the tidal wave hitting the chip industry. Okay, let’s go back to NVIDIA, because what’s happening there is connected to something that will affect you way more directly. So, the Vera Rubin platform. This isn't just a new graphics card for your gaming PC.

It’s a whole new system for data centers—a new Rubin GPU, a new Vera CPU, six new chips in total. And here's the number that matters: CEO Jensen Huang says it delivers a ten-times improvement in throughput and a ten-times reduction in token costs over their last platform, Blackwell. And Blackwell just started shipping! This pace is just... relentless. It means the biggest AI models get cheaper and faster to run, which means everyone is going to want more of these chips. A lot more. And that demand is creating a really weird problem. A problem that reverses a forty-year trend. Think about this: for your entire life, computers have gotten cheaper. Moore's Law, economies of scale—whatever the reason, the price of computing has always gone down.

That just stopped. For the first time in basically forever, PC prices are going up this year—by as much as eight percent. Why? Because of the AI boom that NVIDIA is fueling. All these data centers are ordering insane amounts of high-bandwidth memory—HBM—and the latest DDR5 RAM. So chipmakers like Samsung and SK Hynix are, logically, prioritizing their biggest, most profitable customers. They're shifting production away from consumer-grade memory and toward the enterprise stuff. The result is a shortage for the rest of us. It’s gotten so bad that some retailers are reportedly selling pre-built PCs without any RAM at all, forcing you to find it yourself. Good luck with that.

This is the first time we're really feeling the direct, inflationary effect of the AI gold rush on consumer hardware. One economist called it putting the "inflationary effects from AI into the limelight." It’s a perfect, almost painful, illustration of the new economy. The most advanced technology in the world is making the basic tools we all rely on more expensive. The demand for artificial intelligence is so high, it's creating scarcity in the real world. So while NVIDIA’s stock might be a bit flat this year compared to its meteoric rise before, the impact of its technology is undeniable. It's literally remaking the supply chain in real time. And that's the real shift.

The AI revolution is no longer some abstract thing happening in a distant cloud data center. It’s reached the point where it is actively changing the price of the computer on your desk. The future is here, and apparently, it comes with a price hike.
