Milo the mushroom stretched his tiny, white cap. Last night, we floated high in the air with Cloudy the Dreamy Cloud. But tonight, our adventure is much, much smaller, and right here on the ground. Milo had just woken up. He was nestled in a bed of soft, green moss at the bottom of a very large oak tree. The air was cool and smelled of damp earth and sweet leaves. For a tiny mushroom, the whole world was right here.
He wiggled his little stem and looked around. Everything was so quiet. The sun was just starting to send little fingers of light down through the big leaves above. One of those sunbeams landed on a single drop of dew, hanging from a blade of grass. Oh, it sparkled. It shimmered like a tiny diamond. Milo had never seen anything so beautiful. He wanted a closer look. Very slowly, he leaned just a little bit to the side.
The dewdrop was still so far away. He saw a friend nearby, a ladybug with seven perfect black spots, resting on a leaf. "Hello," Milo whispered. The ladybug twitched her antennae. "Hello, little one," she chirped. "Isn't it a lovely morning?" Milo pointed with his cap toward the sparkling light. "What is that?" he asked. The ladybug crawled over. "That," she said, "is a drop of morning dew.
It holds a little bit of magic. Look closely." Milo leaned as far as he could. And as he got closer, he saw it. Inside that tiny, perfect drop of water… was the whole world. He could see the green moss. He could see the tall oak tree. He could even see a tiny, upside-down reflection of his own little white cap. It was all there, held inside one single, sparkling drop. It was the most wonderful thing he had ever seen.
Milo felt a deep, happy sigh bubble up inside him. The world was so big, and so beautiful. And he was a part of it. The ladybug smiled. "Now you know the secret," she whispered, and flew away on the gentle morning air. Milo settled back into his mossy bed. The sunbeam moved on. The dewdrop fell softly to the earth. His small adventure was over. He felt warm and safe and very, very sleepy. The gentle sounds of the forest waking up were the perfect lullaby.
And as he closed his eyes, Milo the mushroom knew that even the smallest corner of the world holds the greatest wonders.
