Wherever you are, allow your body to settle. Notice the points of contact. The weight of your body supported. In our last practice, we used the four-seven-eight count to find a rhythm. Today, we go deeper than the count. We find the source of the breath itself. Bring one hand to your upper chest.
And the other to your belly, right around your navel. For a few moments, just breathe normally. Notice which hand moves more. There’s no right or wrong. Simply awareness. Now, we’ll invite a change. As you breathe in through your nose, guide the breath down. Past the chest. Into the belly. Feel the lower hand rise, while the hand on your chest remains mostly still.
And as you exhale, feel that lower hand gently fall back toward your spine. Let’s try that again. A slow, deep breath in… feeling the abdomen expand like a balloon. And a long, complete exhale… letting the belly soften completely. In through the nose… drawing your anchor down. Out through the mouth, with a quiet whoosh… releasing.
Each exhale, a little more grounded. Each inhale, a quiet strength. Now, release the focused breath. Let your hands rest wherever they are comfortable. Feel the echo of that rhythm. Notice the stillness that remains. The quiet space in your chest and belly. Allowing the space between your eyebrows to soften.
The jaw to unhinge. There is nothing to do. Nowhere to be. Simply rest in this quiet center. Very gently now, begin to return. You might wiggle your fingers or your toes. The practice is complete, but the feeling remains available to you. Carry this sense of groundedness into your next moment.
This quiet, steady center is always here.
