Your right nostril and your left nostril are not the same. Last time, we used Box Breathing to build structure and control… a powerful tool for focus. Today, we use a different tool… for balance. This practice is called Nadi Shodhana. Alternate Nostril Breathing.

The goal is not to force anything. The goal is to harmonize. To calm the nervous system by balancing the flow of energy through the two sides of your body. So find a comfortable, tall seat. Spine long. Shoulders soft. Allow your eyes to close, or soften your gaze toward the floor.

Bring your right hand up toward your face. Now, gently fold your first finger and your middle finger down, so they rest on your palm. Your thumb, your ring finger, and your little finger are extended. This is the hand position. Your thumb will close your right nostril.

Your ring finger will close your left. Let’s begin. Take a full, deep breath in through BOTH nostrils. And a long, slow breath out. Now… gently close your right nostril with your thumb. Breathe IN through your left nostril. Slow and steady. At the top of the breath, close your left nostril with your ring finger.

Both are closed for just a moment. Release your thumb from the right nostril… and breathe OUT. All the way out. Stay here. Breathe IN through the right nostril. Deep and full. At the top, close the right nostril again with your thumb. A brief pause.

Release your ring finger… and breathe OUT through the left. That is one cycle. We will continue. In through the left. Close. Out through the right. In through the right. Close. Out through the left. Continue this rhythm on your own. No rush. Allowing the breath to be smooth… and quiet.

If the mind wanders, bring it back to the feeling of the breath moving. Softening the jaw. Softening the space between your eyebrows. Finish the cycle you are on. Ending with an exhale through the left nostril. When you are done, gently release your hand down to your lap.

Keep your eyes closed. Return to your natural breath… flowing in and out of both nostrils now. And just… notice. Notice the stillness. The quiet. Balance is not a place you arrive. It is a rhythm you return to.
