Your skin is your body's largest organ, with a surface area of about twenty square feet. In our last session together, we practiced letting go of the day's thoughts. Tonight, we'll deepen that release by turning our awareness inward, to the quiet wisdom of the body itself. So let's begin.

Find a position that feels comfortable for you right now. Perhaps lying down in your bed, or sitting in a way that feels supported. Allow your eyes to gently close, or rest your gaze softly on a point in front of you. There is nothing you need to do. Nothing to fix or to figure out.

Simply arrive, right here. And begin by bringing your awareness to your breath. Noticing the gentle rise and fall of your chest, or your belly. Feeling the air as it enters your body… and as it leaves. No need to change the breath in any way. Simply allowing it to be as it is. Each inhale, a gentle arrival.

Each exhale, a soft release. Now, gently guide your attention all the way down, down through your body, to your feet. To the very tips of your toes. Can you feel them? Noticing any sensations of warmth, or coolness, or tingling. And with your next exhale, imagine a wave of softness washing over your toes… and the soles of your feet.

Letting go. Allowing that softness to move into your ankles… your calves… and your shins. Releasing any tension you might be holding here. Bringing your awareness now into your knees, and up into your thighs. Feeling the weight of your legs, heavy and supported by the surface beneath you.

Just noticing. And letting go. Now, allowing your awareness to travel up into your hips… your pelvis… and your lower back. This is a place where we often carry the weight of the day. On your next exhale, see if you can invite a sense of release into this area. Allowing it to feel heavy, and soft, and completely supported.

Your awareness now moves into your belly… and your chest. Feeling the gentle movement of your breath here. A quiet rhythm. Allowing your shoulders to soften… letting them fall away from your ears. And feel that sense of release travel down both of your arms… through your elbows… your forearms… and into your hands.

Your hands, resting softly. Perhaps noticing the space between your fingers. Just allowing them to be still. And now, bringing a gentle awareness to your neck and your throat. Allowing the muscles here to soften. Letting your jaw be slack. Your tongue resting gently in your mouth. Softening the tiny muscles around your eyes.

And finally, your forehead. Allowing it to be smooth and wide. And now, for just a few moments, feeling your entire body. Breathing. Held. At rest. There is nothing you need to do. Nowhere you need to be. Simply here. Just this breath. This moment. Rest now.
