The average person has over six thousand thoughts every single day. In our last time together, we invited the body to unwind and release the day. Tonight, we turn that same gentle attention toward the mind, and the thousands of thoughts it has carried. So let’s begin. Find your way into a comfortable position. Perhaps lying down in your bed, ready for rest.

Allow your eyes to gently close. Bring your awareness to your breath. You don’t need to change it in any way. Simply notice its rhythm. The gentle inhale... and the soft exhale. Feel the weight of your body. The points of contact between you and the surface beneath you. The back of your head on the pillow. Your shoulders, your back, your hips...

heavy and supported. Let’s bring a gentle awareness to the body, starting at your feet. Notice your toes. Invite any tension in your feet and ankles to soften and release. Allow that softness to travel up into your calves... and your knees. Letting go. Bring your awareness to your upper legs. Your thighs. Allowing them to feel heavy and completely at rest.

Notice your hips, your stomach, your lower back. Feel the gentle rise and fall of your belly with each breath. Let a wave of ease move up through your chest... and across your shoulders. Letting the weight of the day melt away. Your arms are heavy and relaxed. Your hands and fingers are soft. Allow your jaw to be soft. Unclenched. Let your tongue rest comfortably in your mouth.

The tiny muscles around your eyes... releasing. Your forehead... smooth and clear. Your whole body... here. Breathing. At ease. Now, let’s bring that same gentle awareness to the mind. As you rest here, thoughts will naturally continue to arise. There is no need to stop them. The practice is simply to observe. Imagine you are sitting beside a slow, gentle stream.

Each thought is like a leaf, floating on the water's surface. A thought about tomorrow may appear. See the leaf. Acknowledge it. And then watch as the stream gently carries it away. A memory from earlier today might surface. Another leaf. Notice it without judgment. And then let it float on by, out of sight. You do not need to follow the leaves.

You do not need to analyze them. Your only task is to watch them drift past. Some thoughts may feel more persistent. Like they want to stay. That’s okay. Just see them as they are... and gently return your attention to the stream. To the quiet space between the thoughts. With each leaf you allow to float away, you are creating space. Space for quiet.

Space for stillness. The mental clutter of the day is being gently cleared. Leaving behind a feeling of calm awareness. Rest in this stillness now. This quiet space you have created for yourself. There is nothing left to do. Nowhere else to be. Just this breath. This peace. You have let go of the day. You are ready for rest. Stay here for as long as you wish, drifting easily into sleep.

May your rest be deep and your peace be true.
