Pip and the Weather Machine: The Day It Rained Spaghetti

the window wasn't wet it was saucy pip squinted red streaks ran down the glass this was even stranger than last week's breakfast loop at least that was just toast pip threw open the window a long noodly strand of spaghetti plopped right onto the windowsill it was raining pasta pip raced outside the whole world was a food fight spaghetti rained from the sky making the sidewalk slippery and slurpy the sun wasn't a big yellow ball it was shining in bright blue and green polka dots and it wasn't snowing snow oh no it was snowing marshmallows tiny fluffy sweet marshmallows were piling up in soft white drifts a car drove by its tires getting stuck in a

squishy marshmallow bank the whole town was turning into a giant messy dessert what was happening pip had to get to the bottom of this or the top of it the weather came from the sky right pip looked up past the falling noodles and the polka dot sun the problem had to be at the town's weather machine it sat on top of the highest hill a big silver dish that was supposed to make sure it was sunny on picnic days and rainy when the gardens were thirsty but it had clearly gotten confused very confused the journey to the hill was an adventure pip had to leap over puddles of tomato sauce dodge flying meatballs that seemed to be falling now too wade through knee deep piles of fluffy marshmallows it was kinda delicious but it was also a huge problem the marshmallow drifts were getting higher the spaghetti was clogging the drains soon the whole town would be buried pip had to hurry finally pip reached the top of the hill and there it was the

giant silver dish of the weather machine it was spinning and whirring and glowing stuck right in the middle of the dish held by static electricity was a piece of paper it was a drawing a drawing of a crazy weather day with a polka dot sun and spaghetti rain and marshmallow snow it was pip's drawing pip remembered it all yesterday in art class the assignment was draw your wildest weather pip had drawn the silliest most impossible day imaginable but the drawing must have blown out of pip's backpack on the way home the wind must have carried it all the way up here the weather machine wasn't broken it was just doing exactly what it was told it was making pip's drawing come true so what could pip do you can't undraw something but you can draw something new pip pulled a crayon and a napkin from a pocket and started to draw a big bright normal yellow sun puffy white clouds a clear blue sky no spaghetti no marshmallows pip folded it up like a paper

airplane took a deep breath and aimed it right for the big silver dish it soared through the air and landed covering the old drawing completely for a moment nothing happened then the spaghetti stopped falling the polka dots on the sun faded away the marshmallow drifts melted into a sweet misty fog and the sun came out a big round beautifully boring yellow sun the town was saved all because pip knew that sometimes the best way to fix a wild idea is with a simple one
