The first thing to go was Mrs. Higgins’s prize-winning garden gnome. One second it was sitting by the petunias, and the next — WHOOSH — it was sailing into the sky, its little fishing rod pointing straight up. Last week, we saw Pip’s teddy bear float away, but this was… this was EVERYTHING. It started slow. A soccer ball from a front yard. A forgotten kite. Then a bicycle, wheels still spinning, drifted up past Pip’s window. Pip pressed their face to the glass, watching the world untie itself from the ground. A car — a whole CAR — lifted gently off the street, its alarm beeping in surprise. It floated past a rising swing set. It floated past a very confused cat who was now ten feet in the air and paddling like it was swimming.

This wasn't funny anymore. This was… floaty! And it was getting faster. The whole town was lifting off! Pip knew, they just KNEW, they had to do something. They ran outside. The grass felt… light under their feet, like it wanted to come too. Pip looked up. Everything was drifting towards a single point in the sky, like a giant, invisible vacuum cleaner was pulling it all in. But what WAS it? Pip had to get higher. The big oak tree in the backyard was already starting to pull up its roots, so that was out. The roof! Scrambling up the drainpipe, which thankfully was still attached, Pip pulled themself onto the shingles. And from there… whoa. From there, Pip could see it.

The problem wasn't in the sky. It was on Whisperwind Hill. The old radio tower. And at the very top, the town’s Gravity Gem was spinning the WRONG WAY. Everyone knew the Gem! It was supposed to spin clockwise, humming a low, happy tune that kept everyone’s feet on the ground. But now? It was spinning counter-clockwise, making a high, whiny, EVERYTHING-FLOATS-UP sound! A bird must have bumped it! How could Pip fix it? The tower was already wobbling, starting to lift. There was no time to climb! Then Pip saw it. Down in the yard, also starting to float. Their bright orange super-soaker. An idea sparked. A wild, crazy, might-just-work idea. Pip slid back down the drainpipe, grabbed the super-soaker, and ran to the mud puddle by the back fence.

They didn’t fill it with water. Oh no. They filled it with thick, heavy, gloopy MUD. And for good measure, they shoved in a handful of pebbles. Back on the roof, Pip took aim. The tower was swaying. The world was lifting. This had to work. Taking a deep breath, Pip squeezed the trigger. A long, perfect stream of mud and pebbles shot across the sky. It hit the spinning Gem with a glorious SPLAT! The Gem wobbled. The whining sound sputtered. For a second, everything just… hung there. The car. The cat. The garden gnome. And then… slowly… the Gem started to turn the other way. Clockwise. A low, happy hum spread across the town. And one by one, everything began to drift back down.

The car landed on the lawn with a soft bounce. The cat landed in a bush, indignant but safe. The world settled. And up on the roof, covered in a little bit of mud, Pip watched it all come home.
