The word courage comes from the Latin word ‘cor’ — which means heart. Its original definition was not about being fearless. It was about telling the story of who you are with your whole heart. In our last time together, we focused on reclaiming your attention from the world outside. Today, we turn that attention inward. We practice telling that story. This is for the part of you that wants to hide. The part that learned, somewhere along the way, that being fully seen was not safe.

That is an old story. A story that served its purpose. It kept you protected when you needed protection. But today is different. Today, you are the one in charge of your own safety. And you are strong enough to be seen. Take a breath. Let this land. My vulnerability is not a liability. It is the clearest signal I have. Say it again, to yourself. My vulnerability is not a liability. It is a signal. When you feel that knot in your stomach before you speak your mind… that is the signal. When your heart beats faster before you share something you created… that is the signal.

It doesn’t mean STOP. It means THIS MATTERS. That feeling is a compass needle, and it just swung toward True North. It is pointing directly at the thing that requires your courage. Your heart. For years, you may have treated that feeling as a warning sign. A reason to pull back, to soften your words, to hide your work. Today, you can choose to see it differently. It is not a warning. It is an invitation. Here’s the next one. I give myself permission to be clumsy in my search for what is true.

You will not be elegant when you first start speaking from the heart. You will be awkward. You might overshare. You might stammer. You might feel a flush of embarrassment right after. Good. That is the feeling of leaving a comfortable script behind. It’s the wobble you feel when you take off the training wheels. Authenticity is not a polished performance. It’s the messy, unedited, beautifully human process of showing up as you are. Not as you think you should be. So give yourself permission.

Permission to be cringey. Permission to miss the mark. Permission for your voice to shake. The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is honesty. Let’s do one more. This one is important. I can hold my own heart with kindness. Think about how you treat a friend who is hurting. You don’t tell them to just get over it. You don’t list their failures. You get quiet. You listen. You offer presence, not solutions. You can do that for yourself. When the inner critic gets loud, when the shame starts to creep in, you can meet that voice with a quiet strength.

You can say, “I hear you. You are scared. But I am in charge now.” You can place a hand on your own chest and feel your own heartbeat. That is the courage we started with. The language of the heart. It doesn't need to be loud to be powerful. It just needs to be heard. The world will not fall apart if you show it who you are. Your world, in fact, might just start coming together. The fear you feel is the ghost of an old pain. It has no power here. Not today. Armor is heavy. It was made for a battle that is already over.

Today, you can set it down. Maybe not all of it. Just one piece. And feel how light you are without it.
