The man who invented the Post-it Note was trying to create the world’s strongest glue. He failed. Completely. What he made was a weak, barely-there adhesive that nobody at his company, 3M, wanted for years. It was a solution without a problem — an imperfection. In our last episode, we talked about finding joy with grounded affirmations for your real life. Today, we find the strength in what feels like the opposite. Not the perfect moments, but the failures. The 'wrong' answers that turn out to be the key. Because you’re not trying to build a life without flaws.
You’re trying to build a resilient one. A creative one. And resilience isn’t about never breaking. It's about how you put the pieces back together. Sometimes with gold, like the Japanese art of Kintsugi. And sometimes... with a weak adhesive that ends up changing the world. So this morning, before you step into the day, let's try a different kind of affirmation. Not about being perfect or flawless. But about being whole. Let these land. Say them with me if you want, or just let them wash over you. This first one is for when you're in the thick of it.
When the project is a mess, the plan is in chaos, and you feel like you're getting it all wrong. My work-in-progress is not a sign of failure. The mess is proof that I am building something. I honor the middle, the tangled parts, the ‘I don’t know yet’ stage. This is where the REAL work happens. Okay. This next one is for when you feel the pressure to have always known the answer. To be consistent. To defend a version of yourself that you've already outgrown. I have permission to outgrow the person I was yesterday. Changing my mind is not a weakness; it is evidence that I am listening, learning, and evolving.
I release the need to be consistent for the sake of appearances. Here's the one for the perfectionist in you. The part that whispers, 'It's not ready. Just one more tweak.' The part that keeps you from starting at all. Done is a beautiful word. 'Good enough' can launch a dream. I will not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Today, I celebrate completion, not just perfection. This version is worthy of existing in the world. This one might be harder. It's about the past. The mistakes you carry. The wounds that you think you need to hide.
My scars — the ones you can see and the ones you can't — are not marks of shame. They are maps of where I have been and proof that I survived. They show that I have healed. I will wear my history with quiet strength, not hide it. And finally. For every time you felt you wasted time. Took a dead-end job, a wrong turn in a relationship, a path that led nowhere. There are no wrong turns, only detours with unexpected views. The path I thought was a mistake gave me a skill I didn't know I needed, or a perspective I couldn't have gotten any other way.
I trust that all my steps, even the sideways ones, are leading me FORWARD. That's it. That's the work for today. To stop trying to present a polished, finished, perfect version of yourself to the world. You think your value is in being a smooth, flawless, marble statue. It's not. You are a geode. The outside is rough, unassuming, maybe even a little boring. But the breaks? The cracks? The moments you thought you were falling apart? That’s where the crystals grow. That’s where the light gets in. So don't spend your day trying to buff out the scratches.
Go find a new way to crack open.
