My pace is my own. Last week, in episode one fifty-eight, we talked about affirmations for a grounded morning. For starting your day anchored in what’s true and steady. But what about the other kind of morning? The one where you wake up and the ground feels a long, long way down. The morning after you made a mistake. The morning you feel so far behind you can’t imagine catching up. Those days need their own truths. Not wishful thinking. Not papering over the cracks. Just real, believable words for when things are… imperfect. Which is most of the time.
So today, we have five affirmations for THAT kind of day. You can say them right now. You can write one down and put it where you’ll see it. Just let the one you need most land. We started with the first: My pace is my own. I am not late. I am not early. I am exactly where I need to be for MY own story. Say it again. My pace is my own. You are not running anyone else’s race. Okay. The second one is for when you mess up. When you said the wrong thing, missed the deadline, or broke something you cared about. Instead of letting that shame spiral take over, you’re going to say this.
This mistake does not define me. It is a piece of data, not a judgment. I will learn from it and let it go. Feel the difference in that? It’s not denial. It’s not pretending it didn’t happen. It’s an active reframing. The mistake becomes a teacher, not a judge. It happened. You can’t change that. But you CAN decide what it means. And you decide it means you get to be smarter tomorrow. That’s it. You take the lesson and you leave the weight. Here's the third, for the feeling of being completely overwhelmed. When the to-do list is a monster and you don’t know where to start.
Your brain is screaming that you have to fix everything, right now. Your job is to quiet that voice and say this instead. I do not have to solve everything at once. I will do the next right thing, and then the next. That is ENOUGH. This isn’t about lowering the bar. It’s about finding the door. You don’t need a map of the whole building, you just need the key to the next room. Find the one small, tangible action you can take. Make the call. Send the email. Wash the dish. Do that one thing. That’s your victory for this moment. The fourth one cuts deep.
It’s for that nagging feeling of not being enough. Not smart enough, not successful enough, not whatever-enough. It’s the lie of comparison. And the truth is this. I am a work in progress AND a masterpiece, both at the same time. My worth is not tied to my productivity or my perfection. You get to be both. A masterpiece right now, in this moment, exactly as you are—and also a work in progress, with room to grow, to learn, to change. Your worth was settled the day you were born. It doesn’t go up when you succeed and it doesn’t go down when you fail.
It is constant. And finally, the fifth one. For when the plan—the beautiful, perfect, well-thought-out plan—completely falls apart. The plan was a good guess. Today requires a new one. I have the creativity and resilience to ADAPT. That’s what a plan is. It's just a guess about the future. And when the future shows up and looks different, you don’t break. You pivot. You have everything you need to come up with a new guess. You’ve done it a thousand times before. You are resilient. You are an expert at adapting. You just forgot for a second.
So. There they are. Five truths for an imperfect day. Perfection is a ghost. It’s a polished, airbrushed photo of a life no one is actually living. Your life is not a photo. It’s a living, breathing, messy, beautiful thing. It has texture. It has scars. It has moments of grace and moments of grit. Don’t try to smooth it out. Just live it. Today. Exactly as it is.
