The human nervous system can't tell the difference between excitement and anxiety. In episode forty-eight, we talked about grounding your affirmations in your real, specific truths. Today, we find the truth in the knot in your stomach. That feeling is the same. A racing heart. A shallow breath. The only thing that changes is the story you tell yourself about it. Today, you're telling a new story. You feel it right now, don't you? That familiar tightening. That hum of nervous energy before you take the step. Before you send the email.
Before you speak the words. Your body's old programming screams 'Danger. Retreat. Play it safe.' But that's yesterday's programming. Today, you're installing an update. Here is the first truth. Feel it as you say it. This feeling is not a warning. It is fuel. This thrum in my veins is not fear. It is focus. My body is not preparing for a threat. It is preparing for a challenge. And I am ready for the challenge. That's it. You're not trying to make the feeling go away. You're just renaming it. You're reclaiming it. It was never the enemy.
It was just mislabeled energy. Now you know what to call it. It's the feeling of you, coming alive. Now for the hard part. The part after you start. The messy middle. This is where the initial rush of adrenaline fades. It's where you see the gap between where you are... and where you want to be. And that gap looks like a canyon. This is where most people quit. They mistake the clumsiness of learning for the finality of failure. Not you. Not today. Here is the second truth. For the one in the middle of the process. I give myself permission to be a beginner.
I honor the version of me that is learning, that is awkward, that does not have all the answers. My worth is not on hold until I reach the finish line. My worth is present in every single, clumsy, courageous step I take right now. You don't have to be good at it yet. You just have to be in it. And you are. Look at you. You're right here. Doing the work. That is enough. There's a lie we learn early. That comfort is the goal. That the whole point of effort is to get to a place where we no longer need to try. A place of rest. A static, peaceful, unchanging state.
What a terribly small ambition. That's not a life. That's a waiting room. The real prize isn't the achievement at the end of the struggle. The real prize is what the struggle makes of you. The capacity it builds. The resilience it forges. Every time you stay with the discomfort just a little longer than you thought you could, your world gets bigger. So here is the final truth for today. My capacity for discomfort is my capacity for growth. Every moment I lean into this pressure, I am expanding. I am not breaking. I am building.
You used to see your comfort zone as a home. A safe place to live. But you just realized it was only ever a starting block. A place to push off from. The goal was never to feel comfortable again. The goal was to get so comfortable with being uncomfortable... that you could go anywhere. Do anything. Become anyone. The unease you feel is not a sign that you are on the wrong path. It is the texture of the path itself. It is the gravel under your feet that proves you are moving forward. The tremble you feel is not the start of a collapse.
It is the sign of a breakthrough.
