Wherever you find yourself right now, let's begin. Simply noticing the space around you. The quiet of the room. Last time, we talked about finding an anchor in your own breath. A place to return to. Let’s find that anchor again tonight, but this time, without any rush at all. Letting it be slow. Letting it be easy. And now, bringing your awareness to your breath.
Not changing it. Not trying to control it. Simply feeling the gentle rise and fall. Inhale. And exhale. There’s a constant pressure out there to do more… to be faster. But here, in this space, your only task is to breathe. Allowing your own natural rhythm to be the only one that matters. If the breath is shallow, let it be shallow. If it is deep, let it be deep.
Each breath, a small act of kindness to yourself. A quiet permission to just… be. Now, let that gentle awareness drift down through your body. Noticing the points of contact. The weight of your body where it rests. Can you feel the muscles in your jaw? See if they can soften. Allowing the shoulders to drop away from the ears. Releasing a weight you might not have even known you were carrying.
The world asks us to hold so much. To keep up. But right here, you can set it down. Feel the stillness travel down your arms, into your hands. Maybe your fingers tingle slightly. That’s okay. Let the awareness settle in your chest, in your belly. Feeling that gentle rise and fall from the inside. This is your pace. This quiet, steady rhythm.
It has been here all along. And now… we rest in the quiet. In the space between the thoughts. There is nowhere else you need to be. Nothing else you need to do. If the mind wanders to timetables and expectations… gently guide it back. Back to this moment. This feeling of simply being here. You might notice a feeling that you should be further along… in life, in your day, even in this practice.
And that’s okay too. Acknowledging that thought with warmth. With a gentle compassion, the way you would for a friend. This is where you are. And it is enough. Simply resting in that acceptance. In this deep, quiet kindness toward yourself. No striving. No rushing. Just this. When you feel ready, slowly begin to bring your awareness back to the room.
Maybe with a gentle wiggle of your fingers or your toes. Carrying this sense of ease with you. This feeling that your own pace is the right one. There’s no need to rush back. Just a slow, gentle return. And as you move back into your day, or into your night, hold this one quiet thought close. Trust your own timing. You are exactly where you need to be.
