The oldest living trees, the bristlecone pines, add less than an inch of girth to their trunk every hundred years. Their strength isn't in rapid growth, but in quiet, relentless presence. It’s a form of endurance that reminds me of the gentle self-compassion we explored last time… the simple act of treating yourself like a friend, especially on the hard days. So let’s begin there. Wherever you are, just allow your body to arrive.

Feel the points of contact… your feet on the floor, the weight of your body in the chair. You don’t need to change your posture, just notice it. And bring your awareness to your breath. The gentle rise and fall. In… and out. There is nothing else you need to be doing in this moment. Just this. Breathing. Being. We live in a world that celebrates the grand gesture. The breakthrough. The overnight success. We’re taught that strength is loud.

That it’s a decisive action, a heroic effort. And sometimes, it is. But most of life isn’t lived in those moments. Most of life is lived in the quiet, ordinary, and sometimes difficult spaces in between. And there’s a different kind of strength that’s required for those days. The strength of simply showing up. Think of the days you feel unprepared. Tired. Overwhelmed. The days when the internal monologue of doubt is loud… and the external pressures feel heavy.

On those days, the quiet courage it takes to simply get out of bed… to show up for your work… to be present for your family… to just sit with yourself… that is not a small thing. It’s not the prerequisite for the real work. It IS the real work. Your presence, even when you feel you have nothing else to offer, is a powerful act. It’s an anchor in the storm. It says, ‘I am still here. Despite everything, I am still here.’ That is a profound form of strength.

It’s the strength of the bristlecone pine, weathering centuries not with speed, but with persistence. You don’t need to have all the answers. You don’t need to feel perfectly capable or put-together. You just need to be here. Your presence is the offering. And it is always, always enough. So as you move from this stillness back into your day, carry this knowing with you. Let go of the pressure to perform. Let go of the belief that you must be more, or do more, to be worthy.

Just being here, in this body, in this life, in this moment… is enough. It’s everything. Today, remember that your presence is your power.
