The average human heart beats about one hundred thousand times a day. That’s your own personal rhythm, a beat that belongs only to you. Last time, we spoke about quiet endurance, about the self-compassion it takes to just keep going. This is the soundtrack to that endurance. A tempo set before you were even born, a biological metronome humming along inside your chest. So let’s start there. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing... just bring your awareness to your own body.
You don’t have to change your posture. You don’t have to close your eyes unless you want to. Just notice the quiet fact of your own presence. The weight of you in the chair, or the feeling of your feet on the floor. And notice your breath. The gentle rise... and fall. In... and out. This is your pace. Right now. In this moment. It’s not too fast, it’s not too slow. It just... is. But the world has a different rhythm, doesn’t it? It’s a frantic, demanding beat.
A drum that says faster, more, now. It’s the ping of the notification. The deadline on the calendar. The unspoken expectation in someone’s voice. It’s that feeling in your gut that you are somehow... behind. Behind on work, behind on life, behind on where you thought you’d be by now. And we internalize that. We start to believe that our natural pace—that steady, one-hundred-thousand-beats-a-day rhythm—is wrong. That it’s too slow. That we are lazy, or unmotivated, or not trying hard enough.
We try to force our internal metronome to match the chaotic noise outside. And what happens? We get tired. We get anxious. We feel completely and utterly out of sync. Because we are. We're out of sync with the one rhythm that actually matters. Here’s the turn. Here’s the thought I want to offer you today. What if that feeling of ‘falling behind’ is actually your body’s signal that you are falling in line... with yourself? What if that resistance you feel, that urge to slow down when the world is screaming ‘speed up,’ isn’t a flaw?
What if it’s your wisdom? The pressure to keep up isn’t a sign of your inadequacy. It's proof of the world's insanity. Your body knows the right tempo for your life, for your creativity, for your healing. The world does not. The world only knows how to demand. Your body knows how to be. So here’s what that means, for you, today. It means giving yourself permission to honor your own timing. If you feel the need to move slowly, move slowly.
If you need a moment of stillness, take it. This isn't about stopping. It’s about listening. It’s about trusting that your one hundred thousand beats know exactly what they’re doing. You don't have to fight the world's pace. You just have to stop fighting your own. Let your shoulders soften. Let the tension in your jaw release. Your pace is not a problem to be solved. It is a truth to be honored.
