Good morning. Sometimes the path forward feels hidden, doesn't it? In our last time together, we found comfort in the promise from Isaiah... the one that says we do not need to fear, because God is with us. That promise of His presence is a source of incredible strength. Today, we turn to a different kind of promise. It’s not just about presence, but about purpose. It’s a promise about the path itself. It comes from a letter, written by the prophet Jeremiah, to a people who felt completely and utterly lost. They were in exile, far from home, and they believed their story was over.

This is what God said to them, and what He says to you this morning. From the book of Jeremiah, chapter twenty-nine, verse eleven: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Let’s just sit with that for a moment. This wasn't a casual, feel-good sentiment. This was a lifeline. These people were convinced that God had forgotten them, that their present suffering was the end of the story. And into that despair, God speaks a word of profound reassurance.

He says, I have not forgotten you. I am still at work. And I have a plan. Here's what that means if you're feeling a little lost today. First, notice the certainty in His voice. "For I KNOW the plans I have for you." It’s not "I'm thinking about it" or "I might have a plan." It is a settled fact. There is a divine, sovereign blueprint that has your name on it. Your life is not a random series of events. It is a story being written by a master author. And what is the nature of this plan? The verse is very specific. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you." That word, "prosper," is so important.

In the original Hebrew, it’s the word ‘shalom’. We often translate it as peace, but it’s so much more than that. Shalom means wholeness, completeness, well-being, safety, soundness. It’s the state of things being exactly as they ought to be. So, God’s plan for you is a plan for your ultimate shalom. For your deep and lasting well-being. This doesn't mean you'll never face hardship. The people listening to Jeremiah were still in exile. Their circumstances didn't change overnight. But the promise changed their perspective on their circumstances.

It meant that the pain they were in was NOT the goal of God's plan. It was not their final destination. And that is a powerful truth for your day today. Whatever difficulty you might be facing, whatever feels broken or painful… that is not God’s plan to harm you. It is not the end of your story. It is a scene, but it is not the conclusion. The promise is that God will weave even this—even this—into a tapestry that leads to your ultimate good, to your shalom. And that leads to the final, beautiful part of the promise. "Plans to give you hope and a future." Hope, in the Bible, is not just wishful thinking.

It’s not crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. It is a confident expectation in a guaranteed outcome. It is the anchor for your soul. Because you know God has a plan for your shalom, you can have hope, RIGHT now. And a future. This means today is not the end. Tomorrow is coming. And the God who holds you today will be holding you then, too. So as you look at the day ahead… at the meetings, the errands, the conversations, the worries… know this. You are not just walking into a series of tasks. You are walking into a day that is held within a divine, loving plan.

A plan designed for your good. A plan that guarantees you a future, and gives you a reason for hope. So take a deep breath. You can face the uncertainty of this day with a quiet confidence. The Architect of the universe has good intentions for you. Your future is secure. Your hope is real. You are held.
