good morning last time we spoke we rested in the promise that god has plans for you plans for hope and a future today i wanna sit with that word for a moment hope where it comes from and how it can change the feeling of the day ahead there's a verse in romans that feels like a quiet prayer for the morning it says this may the god of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the holy spirit let's just stay with those first few words the god of hope it doesn't say the god of the hopeful or the god
who gives hope it says he is the god of hope it's part of his very nature his character like saying the god of love it is who he is here's what that means for you sitting here at the start of your day it means hope is not something you have to manufacture on your own it's not a feeling you need to work up it has a source and that source is steady and it is infinite you don't have to create it only connect to it and the verse tells us how it says he will fill you with all joy and peace notice the word fill it's not a sprinkle it's not a little top up
it's a filling like pouring water into an empty glass until it reaches the brim and it's not just one thing it's all joy and peace the two together a deep gladness in your soul and a quiet stillness even if the world outside is noisy what this means for your day is that you can ask for this you can hold out your empty cup so to speak and ask the god of hope to fill it even if your calendar is full of things that cause stress you can be filled with a peace that doesn't depend on your circumstances but there is a key a small hinge on which this great door swings the verse says he fills us as you trust in him trust is the conduit it's the channel that allows the joy and peace to flow from him to you trust isn't a one time decision it's a continuous gentle leaning it's the choice in this
moment to believe he is good to believe he is in control to hand him the worries of the next few hours for you today this might look very simple it might just be a quiet breath and the words i trust you with this day that simple act of surrender is the very thing that opens up your heart to be filled and the result the verse says it's so that you may overflow with hope this is the beautiful part the filling isn't just for you it's so much that it spills over the sides you receive not just enough hope to get by but an abundance of hope so much that it touches the people you interact with you become a carrier of hope perhaps without even realizing it and this isn't through your own effort the final piece
is the most freeing of all by the power of the holy spirit this whole process the trust the filling the overflowing it is not something you achieve by gritting your teeth and trying harder it is a work of god within you it is a gift your only job is to be open to receive so as you step into this day remember this promise you are not being asked to create your own joy or muster your own peace you are simply invited to connect with the source to trust the god of hope
may he fill you to the brim today and may you be surprised by the hope that overflows
