The sun rose this morning at six fourteen. In our last time together, we spoke about finding a quiet center amid the noise of 2026. That quiet often begins by noticing one simple, true thing… like the return of the light. It reminds us of another kind of light, one we can carry with us through the day. Let’s begin with today's reading. It comes from the book of Psalms, chapter 119, verse 105. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. This verse gives us two distinct images. And each one has something very specific to say about the day ahead. First, a lamp for my feet. Think about what a lamp was in ancient times.

It wasn't a giant floodlight. It was a small, clay dish with a wick and some oil. It cast a small circle of light, just enough to see the ground right where you were about to step. It was intimate. It was immediate. It was just enough light for the step you needed to take RIGHT now. Here’s what that means for you today. It means you don't need to have the entire year figured out. You don't even need to have the entire week figured out. If you are facing a challenge or a decision, the promise here isn't a detailed map of the future. The promise is clarity for the very next step. It’s a lamp for your feet, not a telescope for the horizon.

So, if you're wrestling with a problem at work, the lamp might illuminate the next right conversation to have. Not the whole solution, just the conversation. If you are navigating a difficult relationship, it might show you the one kind word to offer today. Not how to fix everything, just that one word. The word of God acts as a guide for the immediate, showing you where to place your foot next so you don't stumble in the darkness of uncertainty. It frees you from the burden of needing all the answers at once. You only need the answer for NOW. The second image is a light on my path.

This is different. While the lamp is for your feet, the light is for your path. This speaks to the broader journey. It’s the assurance that even when you can only see the next step, you are on the right road. A light on the path doesn't eliminate all the shadows. It doesn't reveal every twist and turn up ahead. But it DOES confirm the direction. It gives you a sense of where you are going. Here’s what that means if you're feeling a little lost, or if the future feels foggy and undefined. It means you can have peace. You can have confidence not because you see the destination, but because you can see the path.

God’s truth doesn't just light up the ground beneath your feet; it casts a gentle, steady glow along the way you are meant to walk. It keeps you from wandering off into confusion or despair. It’s the quiet confidence that says, "I may not know what’s around the next bend, but I know I am on the right path." This is how we navigate challenges with peace. Not by having every detail revealed, but by trusting the source of the light that defines the way forward. The lamp gives you guidance for your actions. The light gives you peace for your soul. So today, you have both. You have a small, bright lamp for the very next thing you must do.

And you have a gentle, steady light showing you the direction to keep walking. You don't need anything more. The promise isn't a world without darkness. The promise is a light bright enough for the next step. And for today, that is ALWAYS enough.
