You will take about twenty-three thousand breaths today. Each one is a new beginning. In our last episode, we talked about starting your morning with a sense of peace and purpose. Today's scripture gives us the direct instruction for how to claim that mindset, a choice you can make before your feet even hit the floor. It comes from the book of Psalms. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. So. Let’s just sit with that for a moment. Notice the first part. "This is the day that the Lord has made." It’s not a question.

It’s not a hope or a suggestion. It is a statement of FACT. This day — this specific collection of hours stretching out in front of you — was crafted. It was made. It exists on purpose. It wasn't an accident. That means the day itself is a gift. BEFORE anything happens in it. Before the coffee is brewed, before the first email is opened, before you know if it will be an easy day or a hard one. The day itself is a finished work. A present, handed to you the moment you woke up. Here's what that means for you, right now. It means you don't have to earn today.

You don't have to prove you deserve it. You just have to receive it. The second part of the verse tells us how. "Let us rejoice and be glad in it." This isn't about pretending problems don't exist. It's not about forcing a smile when you feel worried or tired. Rejoicing, in this sense, is an act of will. It's a choice. It's a conscious decision to be grateful for the gift of the day itself, regardless of what that day might contain. It’s a fundamental perspective shift. Instead of seeing the day as a series of tasks to get through, or a list of obstacles to overcome… you can see it as a space God has made FOR you.

A space to live, and breathe, and simply be. So how do you actually do that? How do you find joy in the ordinary, sometimes difficult, moments? You decide to look for it. You practice. When you're pouring that first cup of coffee, that is part of the day He has made. You can choose to be glad for the warmth, the smell, the quiet moment. When you're walking to the bus stop or starting your commute, the feeling of the air, the sounds of the city waking up… that is ALSO part of the day He has made. You can choose to be glad in that moment, too.

Glad for the breath in your lungs. Glad for another chance. This is about finding God's presence not just in the big, beautiful, mountaintop moments, but in the mundane. The routine. Even the difficult. Because ALL of it is contained within "this day." The one He made. The joy isn't a reaction to good circumstances. The joy is an action. It is an intentional turning toward gratitude for the simple, profound gift of being alive, right now. It's an anchor for your soul in the middle of whatever the world throws at you. So as you move into the hours ahead, hold onto this simple truth.

This day is not a test to be passed or a burden to be carried. It is a gift that has already been given. Your only job is to receive it. To rejoice in it. To be glad for it. The joy isn't waiting for you at the end of the day, after everything is done. The joy isn't found in what the day holds. The joy IS the day. And it's already yours.
