The average person touches their phone over two thousand six hundred times a day. That’s two thousand six hundred tiny demands on your attention, before you even count the emails, the meetings, and the constant hum of the news. It’s no wonder our daily practice of finding a moment of calm feels so necessary. In our last time together, we spoke about setting that intention for a grounded morning mindset, and today we’re going to find the source of that ground itself. So with all that noise in mind, let’s receive this invitation from God. It comes from the book of Psalms, chapter forty-six, verse ten.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Let’s sit with that for a moment. Just four words to start: Be. Still. And. Know. It sounds so simple. But in a world that rewards speed and constant action, being still can feel like the hardest work of all. The command here isn't to be lazy. It's not an invitation to do nothing. The original language has a sense of letting go, of ceasing your striving. It’s an active posture of release. It's the conscious decision to drop the rope in a tug-of-war with your anxieties and your to-do list.

Here’s what that means for your day ahead. It means you have permission to stop trying to solve everything at once. When you feel that frantic energy rising—that pressure to answer every email NOW, to figure out the next ten steps before you’ve even taken the first one—this verse is a gentle hand on your shoulder. It says, just for this moment, you can let go. You can release your white-knuckle grip on the problems in front of you. Your worth is not measured by your hustle. But the stillness is not the goal. It’s the path. The verse doesn't end at "Be still." It continues, "and KNOW that I am God." The stillness creates the space for the knowing.

It’s in the quiet that we can finally hear the truth that was being drowned out by all our own noise and effort. This isn’t about knowing a fact, like knowing the capital of a state. This is a deep, relational knowing. It's an awareness. A recognition of who is actually in charge of the universe. When you are still, you create the margin to remember that the weight of the world is not actually on your shoulders. It never was. It rests on His. Here's what that means for that difficult conversation you might be dreading, or that big project that feels overwhelming. It means you don't walk into that room alone.

You walk in with the quiet confidence that comes from knowing the ultimate outcome is in the hands of a sovereign God. Your job is faithfulness in this present moment. His job is everything else. That changes the pressure COMPLETELY. It frees you up to just be present, to listen, to do the next right thing without carrying the burden of the final result. And then, the verse expands. It pulls the camera way, way back. "I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." This is so important. The peace we find in the quiet isn't just a personal coping mechanism. It's grounded in a cosmic reality.

The same God who invites you into personal stillness is the one who reigns over global events. Over history. Over every headline that will try to steal your peace today. Your personal sense of calm isn't based on ignoring the world's problems. It's based on knowing who is sovereign over them. Here's what that means when you turn on the news or scroll through your feed later today. The chaos you see is not the final word. The brokenness is not the end of the story. You are looking at one chapter in a grand narrative that God is writing, and the final page will declare His goodness and His glory.

This allows you to engage with the world not from a place of fear or despair, but from a settled place of hope. The world will demand that you run faster today. It will tell you that you are falling behind. God’s invitation is different. He asks you to pause, right now, and simply be still. To remember who He is. Your strength for the day ahead won't be found in your striving. It will be found right there, in that quiet, knowing stillness.
