Welcome back to Morning Peace. Let's begin our day together, allowing scripture to offer its calm guidance. Today’s reading comes from the book of Proverbs, chapter three, verses five and six. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. This is one of the most well-known passages in all of scripture. And for good reason. It speaks directly to a feeling we all know so well… the pressure to figure everything out on our own.

Let’s look at that first line. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart." The key phrase there is "all your heart." This isn't just about intellectual belief. It’s not just agreeing that God is in control. It's about trusting with your emotions, your anxieties, your hopes, and your fears. It’s a full-body surrender. Here's what that means for you today. When you face a decision that makes your stomach tighten, or a conversation you’re dreading… the invitation isn't to pretend you're not afraid. It's to bring your whole heart—especially the anxious parts—and consciously place your trust in a wisdom greater than your own.

It's saying, "I feel this fear, but I will not let it be my guide." Then comes the part that can feel like a challenge. "Lean not on your own understanding." This verse isn't telling you to abandon logic or stop thinking critically. Your understanding is a gift. But it's a limited gift. It's like having a flashlight in a vast, dark forest. Your light is real and useful for the next few steps. But it can't show you the entire path through the woods. Leaning on your own understanding is trying to navigate the whole forest using only what your little beam of light can show you.

It’s exhausting. And it's impossible. Here's what that means for you if you're feeling overwhelmed. When you’ve analyzed a problem from every possible angle and you’re still stuck, this verse offers you permission to rest. You can acknowledge the limits of your own perspective. Letting go of the need to have the perfect plan is not failure. It is an act of faith. Finally, there’s the promise. "In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." That word "submit" can sometimes feel heavy. Think of it as "acknowledge." In all your ways—the big decisions and the small ones, the emails you write, the way you speak to your family, the tasks on your to-do list—you simply acknowledge Him.

You invite His presence into the process. The promise isn't a life without obstacles. It’s not a path that is always easy or comfortable. The promise is that He will make your paths straight. It means He will remove the crookedness, the confusion, the dead ends that come from relying only on our limited view. A straight path is a clear path. It has direction and purpose, even if it goes up a steep hill. Here's what that means for the day ahead. Clarity doesn't come from having all the answers yourself. It comes from walking with the One who holds the map.

The great relief of this verse is that it releases you from the burden of being your own guide. It replaces the frantic energy of self-reliance with the quiet confidence of trust. Your peace today is not found in figuring everything out. It is found in trusting the One who already has. Your path is made straight not by seeing the final destination, but by holding the hand of your guide for the very next step.
