More than forty million adults in the United States live with an anxiety disorder. That's nearly one in five people. In our last episode, we talked about trusting God’s guidance in the small and large decisions of your day. But that trust can feel a thousand miles away when fear is shouting in your ear. So this morning, I want to share a direct promise for that feeling. Here is the word of the Lord from Isaiah, chapter forty-one, verse ten. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Okay. Let's sit with that for a moment. Not as a nice thought, but as a direct promise made to YOU. There are three distinct commitments from God in this single verse, and each one is designed to meet a specific kind of fear you might be facing today. The first commitment is about presence. "Do not fear, for I am with you." Notice it doesn't say "Do not fear, because there's nothing to be afraid of." The Bible is realistic about the world. There ARE things that cause fear — a difficult conversation, a scary diagnosis, an uncertain future. The command not to fear isn't a dismissal of your feelings.

It's grounded in a fact: "I am with you." Here's what that means for you. It means you are not walking into that meeting alone. You are not sitting in that waiting room alone. You are not staring at that screen late at night, worrying, alone. The fear might be real, but your isolation is an illusion. God's presence is the intervening reality. The answer to the fear of being overwhelmed is the promise of accompaniment. He is WITH you. Right now. The second commitment is about provision. "I will strengthen you and help you." This is God's answer to the fear of inadequacy. The fear that says, "I don't have what it takes." I don't have the energy, the wisdom, the patience, the resources.

We all feel that. We all hit the limit of our own strength. Here's what this promise means for you today. The strength you need for the task ahead is not a resource you have to dig up from within yourself. It's a gift you receive. God doesn't just cheer you on from the sidelines; the verse says He will actively "strengthen you" and "help you." This is an active intervention. It means you can ask for help when you feel weak. It means you can step into a challenge knowing that the power to meet it comes from a source beyond you. It’s not about your capability. It's about His. And that brings us to the third commitment.

It's about security. "I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." This is the most tender and powerful image of the three. Think about what it means to uphold something. It means to support it, to keep it from falling. The hand that holds you is not just any hand; it's a "righteous right hand." In that culture, the right hand signified authority, power, and covenant faithfulness. So here's what that means when you feel like you're slipping. When you feel like you've failed, or you're about to fail. It means your ultimate stability does NOT depend on your grip. It depends on His.

A righteous hand will not drop you. A righteous hand will not fail. It is a secure anchor in the chaos. Your footing might be unsteady, but you are held by a hand that is unshakable. So today, when fear speaks—and it will—remember the three promises you have been given. The promise of His presence, the promise of His provision, and the promise of His protection. The invitation isn't to pretend you're not afraid. The invitation is to know that you are not alone in your fear, you are not unequipped for the day, and you will not be dropped. Fear does not get the final word. God's presence does.
