On Tuesday, the International Consortium of Confectionery Compliance officially banned the sound of 'blorp-blorp' in breakfast foods. The ruling came as a direct result of The Great Snickle-Snack Scrutiny, an investigation that made last month's Crunch-Wobble Catastrophes look like a mild case of the hiccups.
The very fabric of our morning routines hung in the balance. Professor Alistair Wigglebottom stood in his laboratory. The air smelled of burnt sugar and impending doom. On a sterile white plate before him sat the object of his terror.
A single, perfectly square, vaguely blurple biscuit. A Snickle-Snack. It did not hum. It did not fizz. It sat there, radiating a profound and deeply unsettling… nothing. The Flumph-o-meter beside it remained stubbornly, terrifyingly, at zero.
This was not right. This was not right at all. The Gloop-Gloop Corporation had called it a breakthrough. The “Flumph” process, they boasted, had finally tamed the volatile ‘whizz-pop’ energy inherent in all high-grade snackticals.
No more explosive breakfasts. No more crunch-wobbles. But Alistair knew better. He had seen the preliminary reports. He had heard the… rumors. He placed a highly sensitive audiomicrometer near the Snickle-Snack. The device was designed to detect the faintest 'gloop-gloop' sound, the tell-tale sign of stable snack-matter.
But the meter registered only silence. A deep, profound, hungry silence. He tapped the Snickle-Snack with a tiny rubber mallet. The mallet connected. But there was no sound. No 'thwack'. No 'pitter-pat'. Just a silent collision.
It was as if the sound had been… eaten. This was not stabilization. This was annihilation. The Gloop-Gloop corporation was about to unleash a breakfast food that didn't just fail to make noise... it consumed it. It wasn't the presence of 'blorp-blorp' he should have been looking for.
It was its absence. The Flumph process hadn't neutralized the whizz-pop energy. It had inverted it. It had created a pocket of absolute sonic nullification. A tiny, edible black hole for sound. Imagine millions of these things, sitting on breakfast tables across the globe.
A child's laughter... gone. The morning birdsong... vanished. The desperate screams as the world plunged into a silent, snack-induced void... unheard. The horror of it all settled on Alistair like a cold, quiet blanket. The emergency hearing of the Consortium was tense.
The CEO of Gloop-Gloop was there, smiling his smug, sound-filled smile. Alistair said nothing. He simply walked to the center of the grand chamber and placed a single Snickle-Snack on the marble dais. Then, he held up a tiny brass bell.
He let it drop. It tumbled through the air… and landed beside the snack without a whisper. No ‘ting’. No ‘clang’. Just a silent, dead impact. A wave of horrified gasps swept the room — the last sounds many of them would hear if he failed.
The CEO’s smile evaporated. The recall was immediate. The ban on 'blorp-blorp' was a mere formality, a footnote on the day the world was saved from the quietest apocalypse imaginable. That night, Alistair Wigglebottom sat in his lab.
He closed his eyes, and just listened to the beautiful, beautiful hum of his Flumph-o-meter.
