Elon Musk just announced he is expanding his Colossus 2 artificial intelligence campus in Tennessee into an old Hormel Spam factory and a former police gun range. Gun Range tracks to be operational by late November, with Spam following in December. In episode 134, we tracked Alphabet's historic crash and chip stocks shuddering under the weight of massive infrastructure spending; this morning, the scramble to power these models has moved straight into raw industrial real estate. Musk's team is racing to generate more juice for xAI's Grok chatbot, even as legal headwinds mount. Just last week, a federal judge denied a motion to dismiss an N.A.A.C.P. lawsuit targeting unpermitted methane gas turbines linked to the facility across the Mississippi border. Musk is not slowing down. He walked the site at midnight and again at dawn, pushing construction teams to bring both facilities online before the year ends.
Meanwhile, paying for this hardware is breaking corporate finance records. Microsoft just completed a twenty-five billion dollar multi-tranche bond sale—its first major debt issuance in nearly a decade. The cash is directly earmarked to fund long-term AI data centers and spread out an eye-watering calendar 2026 capital expenditure plan that sits between one hundred seventy billion and one hundred ninety billion dollars. Microsoft is not alone in scraping together historic piles of liquidity. Meta just raised twenty-five billion dollars by selling forty million shares, with Nvidia stepping in as a direct backer with a three billion dollar investment. But public credit rating agencies are blinking. S&P Global Ratings just revised Meta's outlook from stable to negative, warning about the duration of negative free cash flow and heavy spending with uncertain monetization.
Hyperscalers spent roughly thirty-one billion dollars more than their combined operating cash flow in the third quarter alone. The money is flowing out the door faster than enterprise revenue can replenish it. Finally, Wall Street's crypto experiment just ran into a corporate brick wall. New York Stock Exchange owner Intercontinental Exchange and crypto exchange O.K.X. thought their joint venture, O.K.X.I.C.E., had a clear runway under an S.E.C. temporary exemption to trade tokenized stocks. Corporate America says absolutely not. The tally of public companies formally objecting to having their shares tokenized on the venue has now hit fifty. Over the weekend, Nvidia, Nike, Costco, Micron, and Reddit joined an opposition bloc that already features Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan.
Silicon Valley and Wall Street blue chips are refusing to let an offshore crypto tie-up trade digital replicas of their equity without their explicit sign-off. The message across markets this morning is unified: building and trading the next era of tech requires real power, real balance sheets, and real permission.
