Leafy's Nighttime Flight: A Gentle Garden Adventure

the oak branch gave a tiny shutter letting go just last night we watched glimmer the glowworm light up these very flower beds but high above someone else was just waking up a little copper leaf named leafy took a sudden tumble he didn't hit the ground instead a puff of evening air caught him underneath leafy twirled like a spinning golden coin he wanted to see the whole wide world before dark the breeze promised to carry him but the wind was growing sleepy too it began to slow down dropping him lower and lower leafy fluttered near the hedge wondering how far he could truly

go a grumpy toad blinked up from the wet moss too late for flying little scrap the toad rumbled leafy gave a brave rustle against the toad's speckled nose he wasn't ready to stop exploring just yet a warm draft from the kitchen window gave him one more gentle lift he skimmed over the top of the lavender bushes he brushed past a sleeping snail curled tight in its shell then the yard went completely still the wind puffed its cheeks side and stopped blowing entirely leafy tilted sideways gliding down down down toward the shadowy clover there was no breeze left to carry him home he floated through the cool dusk air

utterly alone a white ceramic mug sat on the garden bench half full of fallen rainwater leafy landed right in the center with a soft he didn't sink he floated upon the calm water like a tiny sturdy sailboat the silver edges of the garden looked completely different from down inside the rim he hadn't fallen out of the sky he had just found a quiet harbor a moth landed on the mug's handle tucking its dusty wings away the stars began to show themselves between the dark oak leaves above leafy rocked gently on the still water cozy and sheltered from the cold night he closed his little
