The world was one big, blurry jewel. Everything shimmered. Soft greens and sleepy pinks all swirled together. A tiny dewdrop named Dewy blinked open his one sparkly eye. He was resting on a giant, velvety leaf. It was the softest bed he had ever known. Way, way up in the fading sky, he saw the last star wink out. It made him think of our friend Starlight, who finally found her own perfect, secret color just last night. But now it was the sun’s turn to paint the world.

Dewy felt the leaf beneath him. It was smooth and cool and smelled like fresh morning air. He was so very small. The leaf was his whole wide world. Then, the sun peeked over the garden wall. A single, warm, golden ray of light traveled all the way across the grass. It touched the petals of a sleepy rose. And then, it touched Dewy. He felt a little tickle deep inside. A happy little wiggle. And then… he started to slide. Whoa. It wasn't a scary slide.

It was a slow, gentle journey. He was gliding down the little road that ran right down the middle of the leaf. He slid past other dewdrops, all waking up and sparkling in the new light. "Good morning!" he shimmered to them. The world wasn't blurry anymore. He could see EVERYTHING. He saw a fuzzy green caterpillar inching along a stem below. He saw a line of tiny black ants marching home after a long night's work. He even saw a spiderweb, hung between two branches.

It was covered in hundreds of tiny dewdrops, just like him. It looked like a necklace made of pure starlight. He reached the very tip of the leaf. And there, he stopped. Hanging right on the edge, like a tiny, perfect jewel. Below him was a whole new world. The flowers were like colorful castles. The blades of grass were like a tall, green forest. And then, he saw someone looking up at him. She had a bright red coat with seven perfect black polka dots.

A friendly ladybug, stretching her wings in the morning sun. She looked up and saw the tiny, sparkling Dewy. "Well, hello there," she buzzed, her voice a gentle, sleepy hum. "You're awake bright and early." Dewy just shimmered back at her. He was too amazed to do anything else. The ladybug wiggled her little antennae. It was her way of saying hello. The sun climbed higher in the sky. It grew warmer and warmer. A lovely, cozy warmth wrapped all around Dewy, like the softest blanket you can imagine.

He started to feel… light. So very, very light. It was the most wonderful feeling. He wasn't sliding anymore. He wasn't even hanging on. He was floating. Just a little at first. A tiny lift off the tip of the leaf. Goodbye, soft leaf! The friendly ladybug watched, her little black eyes wide with wonder. Dewy was rising up. Up, up, into the big, beautiful blue sky. He wasn't a little round drop anymore. He was changing. Becoming something soft, and white, and airy.

He was turning into mist. He floated higher and higher, like a tiny seed on the breeze. He wasn't scared. Not even a little bit. It felt like being carried in a gentle, invisible hand. Other little wisps of mist were rising up from all over the garden. They danced together in the warm air, swirling and twirling. And soon, they all joined a big, fluffy, white cloud that was drifting lazily by, like a giant sheep in a blue meadow.

Dewy was part of the cloud now. He was safe. He was cozy. And he had so many new friends. He looked down from his new, soft home in the sky. He could see the whole garden spread out below. He could see the very leaf where he woke up. He could see the sparkling spiderweb necklace. He could even see the little red ladybug, who looked like a tiny speck of paint from so high up. He wasn't gone. He had just changed his shape. He was waiting for his next grand adventure.

Because soon, the cloud would be full and heavy with water. And he would fall back to the earth as a gentle raindrop. Ready to say hello to the flowers and the leaves all over again. But for now… for now, it was time to rest. To float in his soft cloud bed. And to dream sweet, cloudy dreams. Sleep well, my dear.
