Glimmer the Dewdrop: A Gentle Morning Adventure Begins

In the first light of morning, a single dewdrop can hold the whole world. It’s a bit different from the moonlit journeys Flicker and his friends take, because this adventure begins just as the sun wakes up. This is the story of a dewdrop named Glimmer. Glimmer was born in the quiet dark, when the cool night air left a tiny kiss on a wide, green leaf. At first, Glimmer was just a speck of water. But as the sun peeked over the hills, something magical happened.

The first ray of light found Glimmer, and suddenly, the little dewdrop was filled with sparkling light. It held tiny rainbows, all swirling inside its perfect, round shape. Glimmer was a tiny jewel, resting on a velvety green bed. Looking out, Glimmer saw the whole world, but all of it was tiny and upside down. A great big blue sky and a fluffy white cloud floated inside the little drop. A ladybug crawled slowly up the leaf, and to Glimmer, she looked like a giant, friendly mountain of red and black.

Glimmer just sat there, perfectly still, holding all that beauty. As the sun climbed higher, the air grew warmer. The leaf Glimmer sat on began to feel warm, too. And then, ever so slowly, Glimmer began to move. It wasn't a scary slide, but a gentle, wobbly roll. Glimmer drifted across the surface of the leaf, seeing new parts of the garden with every tiny wobble. Past a blade of grass that looked like a tall green tower. Over a tiny ridge in the leaf that felt like a rolling hill.

Suddenly, a soft buzzing sound grew louder. Bzzzzzzzz. A big, fuzzy honeybee with gentle eyes landed on a flower right next to Glimmer’s leaf. The bee was very thirsty from its morning’s work. After sipping from the flower, the bee noticed the sparkling little dewdrop. It leaned over, its fuzzy leg gently touching the leaf. The tiny movement was just enough to send Glimmer rolling right to the edge. The bee took a tiny, careful sip. Glimmer felt a little bit smaller, but also happy to have helped a friend.

The sun was bright and warm now. Glimmer continued the slow, gentle journey down the long green leaf, all the way to its very tip. For one last moment, Glimmer hung there, a perfect little sphere reflecting the bright blue sky. Then… a soft little drop. Glimmer fell through the air and landed without a sound on the dark, rich earth below. The little dewdrop soaked into the soil, sinking down, down, down into the quiet dark. It trickled past sleeping seeds and tiny roots.

Glimmer was no longer a dewdrop you could see, but had become part of the earth itself. It was getting ready to help a tiny flower root grow strong enough to reach for the sun. A tiny drop of morning, dreaming in the earth, waiting to help a new flower say hello to the sun.
