Gemini Daily Brief or Lissin: your day's to-dos, or the subjects you follow

Gemini's Daily Brief lists your to-dos from Gmail, Calendar and chats. Lissin makes a spoken briefing on the subjects and sources you name. Which job each does.

The short answer

Gemini's Daily Brief, launched in May 2026, is a morning list of to-dos and priorities drawn from your Gmail, Google Calendar and Gemini chats, in English, for personal accounts in the US. Lissin does a different job: a spoken episode on the subjects and sources you name, on the schedule you set. The two can sit side by side.

How to choose

  1. Know what Daily Brief is for

Daily Brief has two sections, Top of mind and Looking ahead, built mostly from your email, calendar and past Gemini chats. You can mark an item done, dismiss it or ask Gemini about it. If what you want each morning is your inbox and schedule sorted, it is the right tool and Lissin is not.

  2. Check whether you can get it

Google lists these requirements: 18 or over, in the US, signed in with a personal Google account rather than a work or school one, Google Workspace connected to Gemini and Memory turned on. It is in English only, in the Gemini app, at gemini.google.com and in Gemini Live, and Google is releasing it gradually.

  3. Listen to it, or listen to something else

Daily Brief is written. Ask Gemini Live and you get a spoken version of your schedule and emails. Lissin is for what is outside your inbox: "Every weekday at 7:15, ten minutes on new rulings in UK employment law and anything about four-day-week trials. Skip celebrity news." Each episode is researched again from the open web and lists its sources.

  4. Set the length, time and language

A Lissin episode runs 5 to 25 minutes depending on plan. Pick daily, weekdays, weekly or every two weeks, and the time it should be ready. Lissin writes in 25 languages, so a briefing can be in German, Hindi or Portuguese.

Questions

Is Gemini Daily Brief free?
It launched in May 2026 for Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers. 9to5Google reported on 8 September 2026 that Google had made it free in the US. Google's help page lists the age, country and account requirements but no plan.
Why don't I see Daily Brief in Gemini?
Google is releasing it gradually, and it needs a personal account in the US, age 18 or over, Google Workspace connected to Gemini and Memory on. A work or school account will not get it.
Can Lissin build a to-do list from my calendar?
No. Lissin has no calendar access and does not track tasks. It makes audio episodes about subjects, from web research and the sources you add.
Is Daily Brief the same as Google Daily Listen?
No. Daily Listen is a separate Search Labs audio experiment in the Google app that picks stories from your Search and Discover activity. Our Daily Listen comparison covers it.

What this does not do

Lissin does not read your calendar, sort your inbox or keep a to-do list, so it replaces none of what Daily Brief does with your own data. Creating a show needs an iPhone on iOS 26 or later, and daily delivery is on paid plans. A briefing is written from what is published online when it runs, so check names, dates and figures against the source before you act on them.
