The short answer

Upload the .docx or .doc and say what the show should be. Lissin reads the document’s text and heading structure, writes a script, and narrates it. Accept or reject tracked changes first — an unresolved revision can be read as both the old and the new sentence.

How to do it

  1. Resolve tracked changes and delete comment threads

    Review → Accept All, and delete resolved comments. A document mid-review carries several versions of itself, and nothing downstream can tell which one you meant.

  2. Use real heading styles

    Heading 1/2/3 rather than bold 16pt text. It costs nothing and it gives the script an actual outline to follow, which shows up as better pacing and clearer transitions in the finished episode.

  3. Describe the listener

    ‘Explain this to a smart person outside the field’, ‘give me the counter-arguments’, ‘summarise for a decision, ten minutes’. Any of these produces a different and better episode than an unqualified upload.

Questions

Does it handle old .doc files?
Yes, the legacy binary format is read as well as .docx.
What about footnotes and endnotes?
They come through as text, which means a heavily footnoted document can narrate with interruptions in odd places. Asking for ‘the argument, with sources mentioned where they matter’ handles it better than asking for a faithful read.
Can I upload several documents as one show?
Yes, and it is usually the more interesting request — a set of related documents produces an episode about what they say together, which is work nobody does manually.

What this does not do

Embedded objects — a pasted spreadsheet, a linked chart, an equation drawn as an image — are not read from DOCX. If a document’s substance is in those, export it to PDF as well and upload both.
