the average person takes about 23,000 breaths in a single day most of them are unconscious last time we found our balance with a simple resetting breath today we give that balance a structure a container find a comfortable seat feel your feet on the floor your spine tall but not rigid let your hands rest in your lap and just notice your breath as it is right now no need to change a thing

we're going to build a simple box with the breath four equal sides inhale for a count of four hold the breath in for four exhale for four and hold the breath out for four that's the pattern let's do it together breathe in two three four hold the breath two three four breathe out two three four

and hold out two three four again inhale two three four hold two three four exhale two three four hold two three four now continue on your own find your own four second count it doesn't need to be perfect the structure is the practice not the performance

this simple square does more than just focus the mind each four second hold is a deliberate pause a signal you are sending to your nervous system especially the hold at the bottom of the exhale that moment of empty stillness tells your body that you are safe that you are in control even when there is nothing there this isn't about forcing calm it's about building a space where calm can arrive on its own the box is the container the stillness is what fills it

now let the counting go let the structure dissolve and simply return to the natural rhythm of your breath notice what remains you built the container now carry the calm that you found inside it
