A single deep breath can lower your heart rate by five to ten beats per minute. Last time, we woke up the vagus nerve. Today, we give that system its most direct and powerful tool. So find your position. Sitting or lying down. Whatever lets your body feel supported. Close your eyes. Or soften your gaze. And just arrive. Don't change anything. Just notice the breath you came here with.
Shallow or deep. Fast or slow. It doesn't matter. You are here. That's enough. Now, place one hand on your chest. Right over your heart. Place the other hand on your belly. Just above your navel. For the next few minutes, these hands are your guides. Your anchors. The goal is simple. We want the hand on your belly to move. The hand on your chest should stay relatively still.
If it moves, that's okay. Don't force it. Just notice. The work is in the noticing. Let's begin. Exhale all the air out of your lungs. A gentle push. Get empty. Now, a slow breath in through your nose for four… three… two… one. Feel your belly swell into your hand. Your abdomen expanding. Not your chest. Your belly. Hold it for a moment at the top. And now a long, slow exhale through your mouth for six… five… four… three… two… one.
Feel your belly fall. Your hand gently lowering as your navel draws back toward your spine. Again. In through the nose. Let the belly rise. Four… three… two… one. The air is cool. And out through the mouth. A warm, slow release. Six… five… four… three… two… one. Let your shoulders drop. Let your jaw go slack. Breathe in. The hand on your belly rises. The hand on your chest is quiet.
Mostly quiet. Breathe out. A complete release. Let go of the air. Let go of the tension you're holding in your forehead. Keep this rhythm. In for four. Out for six. Your mind will wander. It will plan. It will worry. That is its job. Your job is different. Your job is to feel the hand on your belly rise… and fall. When your mind gets loud, just come back to that simple movement.
Rise. And fall. That's it. You're doing it. Take one more full, deep cycle on your own. The deepest one yet. Now let your breath return to its natural rhythm. Let your hands rest in your lap. Just be still. Notice the quiet. The space you've created inside. This feeling isn't something you had to find. You just had to make room for it. When you're ready, you can open your eyes.
This reset is always available to you.
