Find a comfortable seat. Let your spine grow long toward the ceiling. Let your shoulders drop away from your ears. You can close your eyes, or just soften your gaze toward the floor in front of you. Take a moment to arrive. In this body. In this breath. In our last session, we focused on using the breath to find balance. Today, we'll use a specific, ancient technique designed to do just that.

It’s called Nadi Shodhana, or Alternate Nostril Breathing. The practice is simple. It works by guiding the breath from one side of the body to the other, creating a deep sense of calm and equilibrium in your nervous system. Bring your right hand up toward your face. If your arm gets tired, you can support your elbow with your other hand.

This is about ease, not strain. Now, fold your first two fingers—your pointer and middle finger—down to touch your palm. Your thumb and your ring finger will remain free. This is the hand position. Your right thumb will gently close your right nostril. Your ring finger will gently close your left. We'll move back and forth in a simple, steady rhythm.

Let’s begin. Take a full, deep breath in through both nostrils. And a long, slow breath out. Let it all go. Now, use your thumb to gently close your right nostril. Breathe IN through your left nostril... for four... three... two... one. At the top of the breath, close your left nostril with your ring finger. Both are now closed. Hold the breath gently...

just for a moment. Release your thumb. Breathe OUT through your right nostril... for six... five... four... three... two... one. Stay on this side. Breathe IN through the right nostril... for four... three... two... one. Close the right nostril. Hold the breath. No tension. Release your ring finger. Breathe OUT through the left nostril... for six...

five... four... three... two... one. That is one complete cycle. We will continue. In through the left. Hold. Out through the right. In through the right. Hold. Out through the left. Continue this rhythm on your own. I will keep the time. Follow the wave of your own breath. Just a few more rounds. There is nowhere else to be. Now, finish the cycle you are on.

Make sure your final breath is an exhale through the left nostril. When you are complete, release your hand. Let it rest in your lap. Keep your eyes closed. Be still. And just notice. Notice the quality of the air on your skin. Notice the quiet space that the breath created. You don't need to analyze it. Just feel it. The subtle shift. The calm.

You brought your system back to its center. Take one final, deep breath in, filling your lungs completely. And let it go with a slow, audible sigh. Carry this stillness with you into your day.
