For over two thousand years, a simple breathing technique has been used to synchronize the left and right hemispheres of the brain. In our last daily breathwork reset, we focused on the power of intentional routines. Today, we add a tool that brings immediate, felt balance. Find a comfortable seat. Spine tall, but not rigid. Let your shoulders fall away from your ears.

Allow your hands to rest in your lap. Close your eyes. Just arrive here. In this chair. In this body. In this breath. Nothing else is required of you right now. We are going to practice Nadi Shodhana. Alternate Nostril Breathing. It sounds complex. It is not. It is a simple, physical act that quiets the mind. Bring your right hand up toward your face. Let your left hand rest, palm up, on your knee.

On your right hand, fold your index finger and your middle finger down into your palm. Your thumb, ring finger, and pinky finger remain extended. This is the position. You will use your thumb to gently close your right nostril. You will use your ring finger to gently close your left nostril. The pressure is light. Like you are touching a soap bubble without popping it.

Let’s begin. Take a deep breath in through both nostrils. And a full breath out. Now, use your thumb to gently close your right nostril. Inhale slowly, quietly, through your left nostril. For a count of four... three... two... one. At the top of the inhale, use your ring finger to close your left nostril. Both are now closed. Hold the breath for just a moment. Stillness. Now release your thumb from your right nostril.

Exhale slowly, completely, through the right side. Four... three... two... one. Stay here. Inhale through that same right nostril. Slow and steady. Four... three... two... one. At the top, close the right nostril with your thumb. Both closed. A moment of quiet. Release your ring finger from the left nostril. Exhale fully, gently, through the left side. Four... three... two... one. That is one complete round.

You have balanced one cycle of breath. Now, continue on your own. Inhale left. Exhale right. Inhale right. Exhale left. Find a rhythm that feels good for you. Unforced. Smooth. If your mind wanders, and it will, just bring it back to the feeling of the air. The coolness on the inhale. The warmth on the exhale. There is nothing else to do. Left side. Right side. Each breath a path back to your center.

You are not trying to stop your thoughts. You are just giving them less to hold onto. Continue for three more rounds at your own pace. This is your time. This is your breath. After your next exhale through the left nostril, complete your final round. When you are done, release your right hand back down to your lap. Keep your eyes closed. Breathe normally through both nostrils.

And notice. Just notice the shift. The quiet. The stillness behind your eyes. The feeling of being settled in your own skin. This clarity was here all along. You just cleared the path to it. Take one more deep breath in. And let it go with a . When you are ready, you can open your eyes. The center is always there.
