Three deep, abdominal breaths can lower your heart rate by up to ten beats per minute. In our last session, we used the breath to reset our energy. Today, we go deeper to the engine that drives that calm—your diaphragm. Let’s begin. Find your way to a comfortable position. Seated in a chair, with your feet flat on the floor. Or lying down, arms resting by your sides.

There’s no right way. Only what feels supportive for you, right now. Gently close your eyes, or soften your gaze toward the floor. Bring one hand to your chest. And the other to your belly, just above your navel. These hands are your guides. They will tell you where your breath is going. For now, just let them rest there. Feel the warmth of your palms. Take a normal breath in.

And a normal breath out. Don’t change a thing. Just notice. Which hand moved more? For most of us, it’s the hand on the chest. We live up here. In our heads, in our shoulders. Today, we’re going to invite the breath to travel lower. On your next inhale, breathe in slowly through your nose. And as you do, imagine you’re filling a balloon in your belly. Send the breath down, past your chest, and feel the hand on your stomach gently rise.

Now, exhale slowly through pursed lips, like you’re breathing through a straw. Feel your belly fall as the air releases. The hand on your stomach goes down. Let's try that again. A slow, deep inhale through the nose. Your belly expands. Your hand rises. And a long, steady exhale through your mouth. Your belly contracts. Your hand falls. Notice the hand on your chest.

It’s quiet. Still. All the work is happening deeper. This is diaphragmatic breathing. You’re using the full capacity of your lungs. You’re signaling to your nervous system that you are safe. Let’s find a rhythm. Inhale… two… three… four. Feel the expansion. Exhale… two… three… four… five… six. Feel the release. Again. Inhale deep into the belly. Exhale and let it all go.

As you continue, scan your body for tension. Is your jaw clenched? Let it go soft. Are your shoulders creeping up toward your ears? Let them drop. Are your hands holding a fist? Let your fingers uncurl. Every exhale is an invitation to release something you don’t need to carry. Every inhale is a renewal. A quiet reset. I’ll be quiet for a few moments. Just you and the rhythm of your breath.

The rise and fall of your hand. Keep going. You’re doing it exactly right. There is nothing to achieve. Just this breath. And the next. Now, gently release control. Let your hands rest in your lap or by your sides. Allow your breath to return to its own natural, easy rhythm. No effort. Notice how you feel. The quiet. The stillness inside. This isn’t a special state you have to earn.

It's your body’s native setting. Three breaths is all it takes to come home.
